UnknownZombie
Is there some setting that I can change that will show the actual post that someone has quoted, instead of a post number? I looked in my forum control panel, but couldn't find any setting that relates to this. Perhaps I just overlooked it? If not, I would really like this to be something that a person could have as an option. I find it very hard to follow conversations by just seeing that someone made the post "In response to #123456." I realize that I can click on the post number to be taken to the post that was quoted, but that isn't a very good method. It breaks your stride while reading. I also frequently have to use my cell phone for internet, and it can take a bit for the browser to "load" the position of the page the quoted post is at. If it is a long quote and you only want a part of it, you can cut out the parts you don't want. Is this what you are looking for?
IsharaMeradin
The OP is referring to how replies in the mod comment threads are handled forum side. On the mod page's comment section replies follow one another inside the "post" of the first comment. This structure does not fit well with the forum side of the same thread. Instead each previous reply is listed as "In response to #XXXXXX". I find, while on PC, that it is easier to go to the first page of posts on the forum side and click the mod page link posted by Site Bot. Then read the posts on the mod comments page. UnknownZombie
I have a problem reading messages with quotes, not figuring out how to make posts with quotes. The post you just made where you quoted me looks exactly like I would expect it to; my text that you quoted is visible in your post and so it's easy to follow the conversation. I don't know what's different about the post you just made from other posts on the forums... But here is an example screenshot I just took of what I am talking about where there is simply a post number:http://i.imgur.com/XdQh1TA.png

I try to read the posts on the forums instead of the mod page, because on the mod page they're sorted newest-to-oldest which I have a hard time following... But in the forums quotes are a pain to follow. So I guess it's a "pick your poison" kind of situation? Could there be a sorting option for posts on mod pages? But in the forums quotes are a pain to follow. So I guess it's a "pick your poison" kind of situation? Could there be a sorting option for posts on mod pages? I just usually click the last page of comments on the file side (which are the oldest) and go backward if I need to do so. However when someone comments/replies to a post, that pushes the original post and all its replies to the "newest" post position (at least until another new post comes along.) So if you made a post on the 15th of March and then I replied directly today at this moment it would then be the top post. This is so it can be seen on the file side immediately and not lost back three pages where the original post was. I'm not sure how a sorting function would handle that exactly. It sometimes is indeed pick your poison and it is difficult in particular in old or popular mods (with pages and pages of comments) in which I find no easy way to get the info I am looking for at any given time. I have honestly resorted to using Google to search for things as it is easier than looking or even trying to do a forum keyword search which is hit and miss (with these many pages of posts.) However when someone comments/replies to a post, that pushes the original post and all its replies to the "newest" post position (at least until another new post comes along.) ... Wow, I didn't even realize that was something that happened to posts on the mod comments page. That pretty much makes reading the mod comments page in a logical order impossible. I have honestly resorted to using Google to search for things as it is easier than looking or even trying to do a forum keyword search which is hit and miss (with these many pages of posts.) This is it. To be perfectly honest, my issue isn't really just about reading a mod's forum thread from cover-to-cover in a certain order (though it would be nice, and it still feels like a strange issue). The real issue is searching mod forum threads for solutions when you have a problem. I'm a big advocate of RTFM, and as such anytime I have issues I try to see if there is any knowledge already available about the issue before just pestering the mod author straight away. I don't want to ask a question that the mod author has already answered a few times before. Not being able to search posts in the mod page comments means that you have to come to the forums to do searches. Trying to follow fragmented discussions that may or may not pertain to the issue you're searching to learn about is just made much harder by the way the reply/quote system works on the forum side. It can even possibly mean that the solution to a problem you have is impossible to find by searching. Lisnpuppy
It is difficult at times. But usually you can figure it out with a bit of patience. Having the replied posts on the file side jump to newest is great for people who asks questions in threads or mod authors who reply. If people are chatty it gets a bit weird. Between googling my question and the occasional keyword forum search I can find my way, but I been here a LOOOONG time. lol Sometimes it is easier, after you have made a good attempt on your own, to maybe apologize and ask in the thread. Especially if there are hundreds of pages of comments. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I am hopeful that improvements to the site will help these issues also. Doesn't do any good to have a bunch of knowledge if nobody can find it.
