again thank you to everyone one these forums for your unprecedented help in helping me build my PC. as of right now, it will be two more weeks until i can order everything (have the money, just dont wanna empty my bank account) but this should be my final product listing for my PC, if anything, ill find a better deal and save money, but nothing should change between now and then. the one thing i will order now will be my Ram to save $15 lol. so without further ado, here is my build you guys basically put together for me!

i am very satisfied with the final price. i was expecting $1400-$1500 before warranties and whatnot, but getting less then that even with warranties is absolutely great. i could easily put more money into it to get to those totals, but really, there is no need.

again thanks for your help everyone. any final critiques are welcome, opinions, comments, etc. :)

EDITED: no longer getting the third party cooler. (also, i already bought the RAM)

I would have gotten a 6950 and then unlocked it into a 6970, which is on par with a gtx570. (Assuming the 6950 is a reference design and not a non ref one.) http://www.newegg.co...7-588-_-Product

For the ram, 1333mhz seems a bit slow. I would have gotten some faster 1600mhz sticks instead. Here's one for $70 after rebate. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820220558

As for everything else, it looks fine.

You only need faster ram when you overclock older processors, because you change the ram speed as well when you increase the baseclock.

With these new processors you increase the multiplier so 1333 is enough.

your monitor is "glossy black"

consider that glossy reflects light sources more easily

so it may be hard to see

edit - make that -- reflects minor light sources brilliantly

ok so about the card....what do u mean unlocking it and whatever u were saying to do with it?

the ram is final. i already about it because i saved $15 on it when i did. its ok if its not quite the best, RAM is easy to upgrade, and im not a super hardcore gamer. i doubt i would even notice the difference.

about the screen. the screen will be up against a wall. also the room im in isnt the most well lit room. i dont think glossy will be much of an issue. if i misunderstood u please reiterate :P

and about the cooler. i decided not to go with the cooler. im just gunna go with the stock cooler. i dont plan on OCing and my friend with the same CPU says hes doing just fine with the stock cooler and hes even OCed a bit. who knows about the future but for now ill just sick with the stock cooler

a separate question though. can i go wireless internet with a desktop? i already have a router. im guessing i need some sort of wireless dongle or something? how do i go about doing this. if i need to have a wired connection its gunne be pretty tough. the main modem is upstairs and a few rooms over.

thanks for all your opinions guys, keep them coming!!!!

Most GPU manufacturers deliberately take their higher end cards like the 6970 and "lock" some of the features eg, pixel pipelines, memory chips, etc and sell them cheaper as lower end cards to meet market demands. Rather than spending more money redesigning and manufacturing a lower end card, they get the higher end ones and lock some of the features.

Unlocking is when you take the locked piece of hardware and unlock it into a higher end model whether its by a simple bios flash or a physical hardware mod, etc.

This practice has happened in the past with various hardware manufacturers eg,

Nvidia FX5200 unlocks to FX5500

Nvidia 8800GT unlocks to 9800GT

Nvidia GTX465 unlocks to GTX470

AMD Athlon 2 X3 unlocks to Phenom 2 X4

AMD Phenom 2 X2 unlocks to Phenom 2 X4

AMD Sempron 140 unlocks to Athlon 2 X2

Most GPU unlocks are done by flashing the bios of the locked card with the unlocked cards counterpart bios. Essentially transforming the card into a "new" card. This procedure permanently unlocks the card so make sure you back up the original bios if you want to switch back your card to the lower end one.

Most CPU unlocks are done by utilizing a motherboard that supports a feature called "Advanced Clock Calibration". Switching it on essentially transforms your cpu into the higher end variant. This feature is not permanent, so when you remove the cpu from your mobo, it gets switched back to being the lower end model.

can i go wireless internet with a desktop? i already have a router. im guessing i need some sort of wireless dongle or something?

Yes, you'd need either a wireless USB dongle or a wireless PCI card thats goes plugged into your motherboards PCI slot. I have a wireless PCI card in my computer as well and it works great.

ok so which is better a wireless USB dongle, or a PCI card?

and im guessing that my motherboard can use said PCI card?

would u mind showing my a good example of a PCI card and/or a USB dongle...like good quality ones?

thanks for your help
