Decent parts?

Recommended Posts

I'm not looking for the best out there. I just want a good computer that will run Skyrim better than the 360. Here are some parts I found, and I wanted to know if I should skip and look for something else, or if those will do.

Processor: http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Phenom-Socket-Quad-Core-Processor/dp/B004LRO9B4/ref=reg_hu-rd_add_1_dp

Computer case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233&Tpk=Cooler%20Master%20HAF%20912

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625

Motherboard: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-M4A87TD-USB3-DDR3-Motherboard/dp/B003ICWAV4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1307929139&sr=1-2

RAM: http://www.amazon.com/G-Skill-Ripjaws-F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL-PC3-12800-unbuffered/dp/B002RPCLH6/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1307927672&sr=1-3

Hard Drive: http://cgi.ebay.com/Western-Digital-Caviar-Black-WD2002FAEX-2TB-7200-RPM-/270764392246?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0ad0bf36#ht_747wt_1141 (Kinda hoping it stays at a low price.)

Optical Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135224

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152028

Total estimated cost: $550

Keep in mind that I don't want this thing to be "TEH BEZT" just a good, decent, computer that will run Skyrim well. Thanks! (Also, know of any other components that are better AND cheaper? Or at least will do the trick for a better price?)

the one thing i would say is try to get everything on newegg (or tigerdirect...is another good one) those are tech places. they have good reviews to look at, detailed stats, etc. you can also warranty everything, which i would highly recommend. it might add another $100 after everything, but its worth it. would not recommend ebay for parts. even with good reviews, you just never know. plus the inconsistent prices.

also for that price, you might be better of buying a whole pc. or look for deals on Newegg. often when you buy a part, they will show you a combo you can get with it, like a whole pc

as for the quality of the parts, idk. im in the process of building my first PC as well. (the last 4378932 topics are from me asking different things. take a look maybe youll learn something) but im spending $1200 on mine...$1300 after warranties

the one thing i do know, is that AMD is the way to go for a cheaper PC (as youve already picked out) i just dont know how to build a PC thats cheap, id always want to upgrade :P

Looks good, but you might want to look a few of these:

CPU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808

Motherboard:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131733

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131728

The CPU is unlocked so that you can overclock it later as it gets older, and the motherboards are socket AM3+ so that you have the ability to upgrade the CPU farther down the road. The second one is a micro-ATX though, but it sounds like you are not interested in a multi-GPU setup.

honestly if you wanna go cheaper go with this:

CPU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103913&cm_re=amd_phenom_1100t-_-19-103-913-_-Product

AMD is cheaper but near as powerful. if i was short on cash on my build i prolly woulda gone AMD, but since i had a higher price limit, i went with intel. idk what kind of mother board u should get though, i just know it needs to be AM3

I agree with the suggestion to go AMD, I would also drop the case/PSU combo - you'll almost never find a top shelf PSU in such a combo. Look at Corsair, Seasonic, XFX, and Enermax - they're all quality boxes; you'll be spending ~$80-$120 on the PSU alone to get something super nifty. I wouldn't even go with that $200 AMD though, you can back way off on the CPU and still have top end performance (because quite honestly, it doesn't do a whole lot for your gaming performance - put the money into a better graphics card, you'll realize better returns).

Something like an X4 965 or 970 will be perfect (may even run faster for games), and take the $50 you saved (probably more once you switch to an AMD mainboard, they tend to be cheaper for the same features) and step up to a GTX 560 or something.

i know, i was just listing the AMD that has the most power, esp since he went with the i5 2500, its the closest to it that AMD has (the i5 2500k is the one i was gunna go with for my PC)

the PSU price all depends on the Watts. i planned on a 600W on mine and it was $70 (-$50 after rebate) and its a corsair.

the graphics card will be the most expensive part of your build, and thats not a bad thing. dropping $10-$20 on your Case and/or PSU and/or CPU and/or Motherboard and/or anything else and putting that money into a Graphics Card is well worth it
