Don't like freedom?

Don't really know what I was "trying" :whistling:

Using your neighbors as a example of how the middle class is fine is not the best idea. Local areas can be fine for now, on a national level its entirely different.

Also it seems a bit strange that all the conservatives that hate wealth redistribution are glad to give out huge tax cuts to certain groups.

We have played out this scenario before... tit for tat for months, I'll pass on illuminating you.

"Any man can make mistakes, but only an idiot persists in his error".--Marcus Tullius Cicero

Same could be said to you, rather funny seeing as you had a much longer situation then me with granny there...

I simply misunderstood you since its a common conservative view that its OK for a single person or group to control a large amount of wealth. That is what I thought you meant, and I made sure to ask before making too many statements.

As for you, well look over the topic...

Please try to respond to people with something a little more meaningful next time.

But of course I am just stupid and you can't be bothered with replying to me with anything meaningful

Marharth the quote was self deprecatory but if you are having a fleeting moment of self realization please don't let me interrupt that. Why you bring an intellectual waffle bat to a rapier duel has always bemused me and others. I write what I intend to mean, something I might commend you to try.

Grannywills has my respect so is accorded the dues that go with that.

In this case, seems like your coming unarmed into a rapier duel.

I should honestly stop replying to you since your replies have nothing to do with the subject or topic and are just full of unrelated personal insults.

I wouldn't really mind if you keep throwing personal insults and continue to post off topic nonsense about how you are intellectually superior. It will eventually save me quite a lot of time.

If you feel like having a intelligent conversion instead of insulting people it would be better for the both of us.

Debates aren't meant to be nice I suppose. Never heard of a "kind" argument.

Sure its not really easy be nice, it should stay in context with the topic though and not just turn into a barrage of insults.

Is that forum vigilantism, Sync?

Political debates, whether on the floor of the House (of Representatives, Parliament, Senate or whatever your national debating chamber is called), or on Internet forums, can get a little unpleasant (try Googling some of the things that Winston Churchill said to Nancy Astor, for example). What tends to get rather tired is that tendency of those on the Left who, because they form a majority on here, tend to assume that they can claim the moral and intellectual high ground over those of us with a more conservative inclination. I lose count of the times we get told that we are just parroting Glenn Beck, we can't think for ourselves, we live in the past, we want to burn heretics alive, we wouldn't know so and so if it came and bit us on the botty, yadda yadda. Variants of all of this have appeared in this thread, and in others. This is why I find Marharth's comments a little ironic.

It's happened to me in RL too - I was at a General Election Count when a Labour Leftie tried to start an argument with me, I suspect with the idea of getting me ejected from the hall at 3am, since the Electoral Officers and the police were watching. I said "Sorry this is not the time nor the place" and he replied "Why, do you lack the intellectual capacity or are you just too (expletive) thick?" Actually I had just had a letter earlier that day with the (rather good) results of my Law degree exams, which I had in my pocket to show my dear old Mum who was also there, and was pleased to brandish that. I wasn't the one ejected, let's say.

I would also say another thing, specifically to those on the Left who live in the USA and think that Socialistic policies might be the answer to freedom for the masses. Take cognizance of what is going on in Europe and happening in those high spending, big on state interference countries. Do you want to turn into THAT? I think not. We are in a mess because of such policies in the UK. And certainly no more free for it.

I will respect conservative views. People like you have their own opinions and make sense in arguments.

The reason the right gets a lot of heat for "parroting" glen beck and others, is because glen beck and others have pretty much said a bunch of crazy stuff.

Do some people on the right copy what talk show hosts say? Yes. So do people on the left.

I don't like to fall into group opinions, the majority group has nothing to do with anything I said.

What gets on my nerves is when I reply to someone and they can't come up with anything but a few personal insults.

The ideal system of socialism is a system where there are a lot of public programs that would help people out without any invasions on freedom. I think that might be able to work.

Without wading through this entire topic, I want to make some offhand observations, which do not require a response, thus I will probably ignore any.

* I happen to have watched some of the opening arguments regarding in the Federal Appeals court challenge to Healthcare law this weekend, and I noted with sardonic amusement that one of the precedents sited for federal overturn of a states rights issue was "Bush V Gore".

* I tend to notice that Americans, particularly those who consider themselves TeaPartiers, but also many others, often confuse "freedom" with "entitlement".

Well that doesn't exactly look good, making a few offhand observations without reading the thread, now does it? And going to ignore any responses? Cut and run, hm?

Entitlement? That's funny, I thought that was one of the favourite words of the Left when they seek to justify appropriating private possessions/wealth/taxing "The rich". "Because such and such a group..." (meaning the ones who voted for us and who don't want to get up and do anything themselves towards it) "are entitled to a certain this/that/the other..."

You have turned this totally on its' head, Myrmaad, but then I am hardly surprised that you have chimed in on the condescending, patronizing Left wing side suggesting that we conservatives are incapable of distinguishing between freedom and entitlement. Despite the fact that one of the things us poor simple souls believe is that we need to get off our bums, work in order to get our toys, we even believe in paying our dues in the form of taxes, but do feel (dare I say) entitled to squeak a little about how they are spent and to make our feelings known via the ballot box as well as via the media.

Socialist politics, as we have had the misfortune to experience in Europe for so long, is the restrictor of freedom, the Nanny State gone mad, that cannot resist the urge to interfere with legislation at every verse end.
