Raye
The mirror vs the floor thing... well there isn't a reflection in the floor, either. What they did with the floor is make it *semi transparent* and there is a duplicate of the building interior upside down under the floor. Note the flames on the candles, they are unlit in the 'reflection'. And it's a very common trick. A few years ago, a MMO I played, City of Heroes, (which, yes, is PC exclusive) released the Arenas, and there was a bug where you could slip inside the 'reflection' under the arena floor.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v720/jillbamfette/screenshot_2005-03-24-21-54-21.jpg from the top:http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d30/cstuck/screenshot_110624-23-40-11.jpg Here's another one of City Hall where the some textures did not load correctly, including the one for the floor, exposing the trick:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v720/jillbamfette/screenshot_100511-18-00-42.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v720/jillbamfette/screenshot_100511-18-00-36.jpg with proper textures:http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d30/cstuck/screenshot_110624-23-33-48.jpg Exactly the same thing. (though since then City has added REAL reflections in some windows, though they are quite pixely, and the water in a graphics update called 'ultra-mode' http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v720/jillbamfette/screenshot_100511-13-06-10.jpg but still uses the duplicate room trick for many of the shiny 'reflective' floors) Edited June 25, 2011 by Raye
swordsman5
Where reflections are concerned, I was very impressed by Two Worlds 2, there are a couple of full length mirrors in the game and when your char walks in front it accurately reflects all actions and dress, even down to the flickering flames of a torch if you are carrying one. It isn't a crisp reflection, more like the sort of thing you would see from a mirror covered in dust (which makes sense considering the places where they are found). http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b373/swordsman5/Two%20Worlds%20II%20Screenies/SCREEN_0004-1.jpg
x59
ok, thanks for the cool stories but... How about the mirror being less of a mirror than a damn floor in the witcher 1? You have nothing to say because the answer is because of consoles. (and the witcher 1 had a more impresive mirror than two worlds 2)((in triss's room)) Edited June 26, 2011 by x59
Raye
no, it's not because of consoles. As I explained, the floor in TW1 had nothing whatsoever to do with graphics power or rendering capabilities, it's a relatively common graphical trick that can be done on very low end systems, including consoles. Comparing it to the mirrors in TW2 is comparing apples to oranges. The reason we never saw this in TW2 has more to do with the fact that there was no need for it in the interiors presented than consoles. btw. the Two Worlds mirror looks very similar to the ultra mode reflections in City. they're cool, but quite grainy and lacking in detail. Also pretty graphics intensive, even for the low quality result. Better than the ones in TW2, yeah. but I never saw it as a game breaker or anything. So the witcher 2 not looking as good as its 2 year old predecessor in regards to certain graphical properties is not because of consoles. sure. good argument though. Raye
Just because you don't want to accept it doesn't make it any less true. The reflective floor trick is simple not at all dependent on consoles or graphics power, whether you want to accept it or not. you are just being stubborn and childish now. No, your response about the reflective floor is fair. But ive moved on to the mirror in triss's room. It was truly reflective. Yet the mirrors in the room of main NPC's such as phillipa or the virgin of aedirn are not. this is because of, you guessed it, it being on a console. Kyle Hyde
I always laugh out loud at fanboys who spend their time crying about their favorite platforms. Its quite hilarious that these kids bash TW2 just because it is made for consoles! Its even funnier that they complain about graphics. This game is one of, if not THE best looking game of all time. It really doesn't make any sense that people claim that the graphics were consolized. TW2 was better in every way than TW1 was, and its one of the best games of all times. Coincidentally, CDPR is an amazing developer who releases free DLC, removes the DRM, and tries to make everything as good as they can for their costumers. Enjoy the game! crispyDWARF
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that RED developed the game for PC, then only decided to release it for consoles after they saw the reception on PC... I may have just gotten a wrong impression, but that is just me. I've played both 1 & 2, and to me, they are two brilliant games in two (slightly) different formats, both in the same fictional universe. I love both games, regardless of the path the development team went down.
