Stinky No More

Wandering the Mojave with a bottle of water be it clean or dirty is still hot sweaty work. Then you wander into a town smelling like brahman poo, want better results when you talk to the man, find a sink and bathe with your Lurk Soap. It will raise your Charma and your Charisma for about 8 hours. Find it at any merchant shop or search those bodies. Want better pearly whites? Try Yucca paste in a tube for a nicer smile.

Soaps were made with animal fats with a bit of astrigent thrown in. I think wastelanders could figure this out, and besides, who wouldn't want to smell good for the ladies?

Actually, that does sound good.

Though bear in mind that the attitudes towards bathing changed a lot over the ages, so it's not a given that it would actually raise your charisma. Strange as it may sound, in the middle ages and even renaissance, washing was considered a symptom of the sin of vanity and would actually get some people to look down on you for blowing money on such pointless and sinful vanity. At various points they even put punitive taxes on soap, like we put on cigarettes in our time.

They actually penalized for bathing? No wonder disease was rapid. America doesn't have that problem. (that attitude toward bathing that is) If anything, we are a bit vain. For this reason, I would have to go in a different direction from Moraelin as far as attitude toward cleanliness.

From the RP aspect, America has been hit by the big one(s). At first, the survivors were stunned, then as resilance sets in, they'll start cleaning up; their environment, themselves, just to do something if for no other reason. Maybe in our psyche we see the cleaning up as the first step in rebuilding. Even in the harsh reality of the vast destruction that would cloud their minds from any awareness of thoughts to rebuild, the act of washing would be an act of survival even if unconsciously. I like the idea of soap in FNV. It's good for immersion.

My two-bits.
