billyro
I don't know if it's just me, but Oblivion loads WAY slower than Fallout: New Vegas, despite fallout being 4 years newer. Is it just because Bethesda has worked out techniques to make the game load faster, or does Oblivion just load slow because it's oblivion?
HeyYou
Beth did some game engine shuffling between the two... so, on my machine, FO (either version) runs smoother, is more stable, and gives better performance......
billyro
Hopefully this means that Skyrim will be even more stable. :)

David Brasher
Fallout is capable of utilizing the computer power of duel core and quad core computers. It sounds like Oblivion treats a quad core like a single core. So a powerful computer is only using a fourth of its strength and running slow. I have heard that Fallout handles actor AI differently than Oblivion so that it does not cause lag and glitches. I have heard that someone made a Fallout mod where there was a battle with 70 NPCs, and no lag and no AI oddities were experienced. So Bethesda has learned to code better, and new computers are more powerful. I have high hopes that Skyrim will be fast and smooth, and will allow you to have crowded cities or large battles with no great performance hit.
