ToyTrains1
Much to my surprise, I find myself enjoying Automatron. More to the point, it's changed the way I play the game. I now build a heavily armored, heavily armed Robobrain and use it as a provisioner. As I add a new settlement, I build a new Robobrain provisioner. They are fast little suckers on those treads! As for the settlements themselves, I build a robot for defense. For larger settlements like Sanctuary, I build a heavily armored, heavily armed Sentrybot. For smaller ones, I build a heavily armored, heavily armed Assaultron. Ever notice how, when a settlement is attacked, chances are good that the provisioner is also there? Now, with the robot provisioners and the robot defenders, by the time I get to a settlement under attack, all I usually have to do is loot the bodies! The robots have made mincemeat of the attackers. I rate Automatron as a definite plus for the game.

Moraelin
Robots as provisioners have a major bug, if it hasn't been patched yet. Sometimes they revert to the default Protectron, with no armour to boot. As for robots, I find assaultrons to be a bit lacking in ranged combat accuracy, and sentries are too big and destructive. My favourite robot is like this: - Mr Handy body - two sentry arms with gatling lasers (not the unstable ones!) - Mr Handy thruster - three Mr Handy arms with buzzsaws - voltaic armour everywhere possible, bleed armour everywhere else - either regeneration field (if you want to save on stimpacks and food between fights) or tesla coils (if you want it to tank for you) That thing can take on everything short of a legendary heavy sentry and win alone. It pwns at a distance with the lasers and pwns in melee range with the buzzsaws and tesla coils. Since it's a 5-tentacled thing with a jet engine up the... err... bottom plate, I fondly call it "the turbosquid" Now you might say, "what, no head? What about those accuracy bonuses?" Actually a Mr Handy body has better range and accuracy than any head except the Robobrain. And the Assaultron Laser head tends to cause the robot to stop shooting when it fires it, so it kinda negates its usefulness. Alternately, you could put a Robobrain head on an Assaultron or Robobrain body, and give up the 3 Mr Handy buzzsaws, if you want the maximum ranged capability. Though personally I prefer the buzzsaws for all the robots that get up close and personal, just so I don't have to watch my robot try to whack the enemy with the gatling lasers in melee. Well, that's the basic template, anyway. For robots I assign as gardeners or scavengers, I tend to give them at least one pincer, so I don't have to wonder how they do it. And generally replace the gatling lasers with protectron auto-lasers, so it looks like they have hands. But for combat bots, the turbosquid is it. TheOriginalEvilD
I use a mod that gives you extra parts for bots, so I get a little more out of mine. My go-to build is something like: Mr. Handy torsoMr. Handy eyes (all 3 because of the mod)Sentry armsLaser gatling guns on both armsVoltaic armor on everything I don't really care for carry capacity, I just want them to be killing machines, and that's a pretty effective combo. As for changing the way you play, you can use bots for everything in your entire settlement. On my next play through, I plan on having NO humans in my settlements other than the ones you can't get rid of (and that's if I don't kill them off too). I'm gonna RP that play through as picking up where the Mechanist left off. The best part is you'll never have a quest where anyone gets kidnapped or harassed by raiders.. Moraelin
Well, it's fun, but it's less fun than it sounds. I know because I've tried. The least downside is also that you're pegged at 50% happiness and thus productivity. So basically they don't gather as much unless you have a human or two around too. (Which are actually very easy to keep happy at that point. They start wanting more stuff when it's more of them.) On the upside, if it's pegged at 50%, you don't need to visit periodically either. Plus, I'm running through glue like it's a perpetual glue-sniffing party, with making all those bots. By comparison, humans cost next to nothing. You just need a tower and some cloth for beds. And I still wish Beth would have let me just save a bot template instead of manually going through all mod slots every single bloody time. It gets old VERY fast when you try to make 100 robots and go through the same frikken slots and parts every single time. Sometimes I think it would have been less of a hassle to just go with humans. ToyTrains1
With hydraulic frame armor everywhere, a left-hand gattling laser, and a right-hand minigun, my robots can deal with just about anything! :) Being able to save a bot template would be great; if Bethesda doesn't do it, I'm sure an enterprising mod author will. Rabbit1251
I enjoyed it. Probably more so as I don't like killing human beings and it let me loose on machines. There were very few of them in New Vegas. The Rabbit

Well, voltaic armor boosts the damage output of any laser a LOT. There is no equivalent boost for miniguns. That's why I tend to go dual gatling and voltaic. Granted, voltaic looks like ass, but ah well...
