Can synths reproduce?

I have been pondering this question often...

 

Can synths reproduce naturally? The "infiltrators", anyway, since they are apparently more "biological" than other synths, as they are vulnerable to radiation, unlike the Coursers. It is made clear many times that they are perfectly capable of having sex, so obviously they do possess fully functioning genitals.

 

I wonder about it because if a male had no sperm in his semen, or didn't produce seminal fluid at all, or if a female had no menstrual cycle, wouldn't it be very easy for a doctor to figure out that they're a synth? And wouldn't people become suspicious if someone who already has kids was replaced by a synth, and suddenly they were not able to have kids anymore for no apparent reason?

Since they are machines and if they know how, then ,yes, they can reproduce by building another machine. Or, do you mean "can they have sex?". In that case the more sophisticated models would most certainly have that capability. However, they would not have any desire to just as they can, but would not desire to, eat. There would be no recreational sex among Synths.

The thing is, if they WERE capable of reproducing biologically, their offspring would not technically be "synths" anymore.

It has been stated that synths do like eating. Doctor Binet once made a cursory study into why synths seem to all prefer to eat Fancy Lads Snack Cakes. He was even thankful that the synths could not actually get fat. Full terminal entry below:

 

 

It just doesn't make any sense. I've run the diagnostics. Quadruple-checked the neural mappings. Done comparative analyses of taste buds. Tracked digestive patterns. Hell, I've even gone so far as to simply ASK several of them, and still, I'm no closer to answering the question: Why do Gen 3 synths like to eat Fancy Lads Snack Cakes?

 

I mean, sure, they have the capacity to experience taste. Every Gen 3 possesses the synthetic equivalent of the requisite receptor cells. But why this? And why all of them? Good thing it's physically impossible for a Gen 3 to actually gain weight and succumb to obesity. Wouldn't that be quite the Achilles' Heel? Humanity's most impressive technological achievement - laid low by junk food.

 

 

And as Curie's romance can attest, synths also like to have sex. And you can hear one nameless Institute scientist poking fun at his colleague about her possible liaison with a mysterious gen 3, to which she just shushes him. So recreational sex among synths is a thing.

 

As for the original question - no, synths cannot reproduce. They are simulacrum of human beings in this regard, although possessed of almost every other characteristic one might expect of a normal person. Frankly, they would not need to reproduce to fit into human society - plenty of people are infertile so this is would not in and of itself raise any eyebrows. Still, this helps explain why the Institute seems to infiltrate families, such as the Warwicks and Art's family who already have children, so that it is even less likely this deficiency will be noticed.

 

The Institute has yet to actually perfect the technology needed for a child synth. The technological requirements to make a synth that grows from a child to an adult (much less a baby) would be so strenuous and scientifically demanding that it would certainly never be worth it.

Well, they certainly have some kind if equipment down there that has to function like a human, or that would be a dead giveaway to that Synth that something is wrong. Plus if not you could just go around checking peoples' undies to find out who's a Synth (feel sorry for whoever gets that job). So, I would imagine that male Synths even produce some kind of semen, even if it's just for show.

deacon's last aprooval dialouge say his wife/gf was a synth, and they only knew it since they tryed to have a baby with no sucsess, so its likely to assume that there isent functional wumb in female synths, also its likely male synths cant preduce semen, so basicly, you can have as much fun as you want without worry about kids coming into play.

deacon's last aprooval dialouge say his wife/gf was a synth, and they only knew it since they tryed to have a baby with no sucsess, so its likely to assume that there isent functional wumb in female synths, also its likely male synths cant preduce semen, so basicly, you can have as much fun as you want without worry about kids coming into play.

When you start to think about it....a wife that never ages, never gains weight, doesn't get knocked up, doesn't go on the rag and get all bitchy, and can screw for days without tiring...what's not to like? :laugh:

A female synth probably does have a (simulated) menstrual cycle, even if she is otherwise infertile. Otherwise, it would be far easier to suss out a counterfeit. =^[.]^=
