dragonbird
Quick question: Do you lose out on anything by ignoring the mini-games, in particular dice poker, in Witcher 2? Valuable rewards, quest necessity, abundance of XP? In The Witcher, doing all the fistfights and poker gave valuable rewards in the final act, but on my first playthrough of TW2 I got bored with the poker, and failed to win the arm-wrestling in Chapter 3. Am I missing anything good if I totally ignore the dice poker on my next playthrough? Fist-fighting's more fun in TW2 than it used to be, I'm happy enough to continue with that :)
swordsman5
You get XP for going up through the rankings, and also can win money, so whilst it's not imperative to play them every little bit of gold and XP helps. As far as I'm aware there is no massive boost for getting to the top.
BarefootWarrior
Other then some XP and winning some money, not really that important. In my case, I never did get the hang of the dice, and lost a heck of a lot more then I won. No more dice for me thanks...lol. I did use the fighting to try and get the hang of the QTE's. I did get better, but I'm just not fast enough on the keyboard to use the chained QTE's, got a couple and it was fun to see what happened.

If you think you have trouble with the QTE's/mini-games here then try the musicianship in Two Worlds 2.....that is a total pig! So far I don't think I've earned a single point from that, and not for lack of trying.
dragonbird
I quite enjoy the fist-fighting. At least it's more of a challenge than it was in TW1. Gonna give the poker a miss though.
Corlan
In act 2 you will need to win against Skalen Burdon in Vergen(right beside the main gate) for the quest "The Spear of Destiny", part of the main quest. As for useful rewards, you can challenge Skalen 2 more times, each win results in a useful artifact. One's a sword, the other a useful cloak that could come in handy in "Death Symbolized" same act. As for how to play, it's mostly luck but basically you need to roll up more numbers than your opponent, sum up the numbers of the dices after the first round, then re-roll those that are low. Easy! as for Arm wrestling and Fist Fighting, haven't seen anything critical. Although if you beat some of the Blue Stripes members camped near the main army camp in act 2 Roche will eventually challenge you, beat him and they'll give you one armor enchantment plus 10 Superb Well-balanced Daggers. Pretty useful if you ask me. That's all I know.
dragonbird
I ended up playing poker to get Hunter's Armor in Act 1. And for the XP in Act 2. Sigh. Still more boring than killing wyverns for XP (which I miss, as TW2 doesn't really go in for XP grinding). @Corlan - It's poker rules, not adding up the totals. Five one's are worth more than four sixes and a five :)
