So with the new survival mode, you have to sleep at least one hour to save the game. I sleep for one hour, get lethargy from TAKING A NAP, and now need drugs to cure it.

Really? Really? REALLY?!?

Y'know, I think if I want survival-type stuff I'll just wait for a modder to make one that's not bat-**** insane.

Probability of illness depends of a lot of factors (how well you are, are you tired, where did you sleep etc...)

But at the end of the day, this is driven by RNG

I think a mod concept should be something along the lines of 'take what's in Bethesda's version of survival mode, remove the silly stuff, add better stuff, and make it applicable per-character IN ADDITION to game difficulty setting'.

Part of the problem might be if they looked at what the communities of some survival games like/dislike. Going from a lot of the responses/comments I have read on the forums of some such games, there are a lot of masochists who claim to be "survival game enthusiasts".

It's a disease. Many infectious diseases can have lethargy as a symptom.

The idea is that you slept on a dirty mattress in a post apocalyptic wasteland, it's probably infested with bedbugs. You got bitten and picked up a disease. One of the symptoms of the disease you picked up is lethargy.

It makes perfect sense.

I think it's pretty crafty on Beth's part to include a way to penalize people who will still try to spam the save function. They know someone will come out with a sleeping bag mod or something (already have and I wouldn't be surprised if even they bring one out in a DLC) so they add something to try to dissuade you from abusing it. It goes well with the game, it's another calculated choice you have to make that has a consequence. Nothing is free.

Except it was a nice clean brand-new bed in my own house.

It sure appears that illness and disease, while novel, come up perhaps too frequently in the Survival Mode. Otherwise, where are the random settlers begging for antibiotics along the roadside? =0[.]o=

Nah, if you're smart you won't get sick very often. My character is level 22 and has gotten sick maybe 5 times? Always had enough antibiotics to help. If anything I don't like that you get sick with parasites, lethargy, whatever and take "antibiotics". It should have been more complex like a Wasteland Survival guide which explains you need different drugs for different illnesses.

Yeah, I love Survival Mode including the save at bed feature but I'll admit that when I needed to save and quit to answer someone at my door IRL, it was a little irritating for my character to wake up with insomnia. I might have to start using the console to save in that sort of situation.

Have you looked at Sleep or Save by LoganBacca? It's a very new mod, I just saw it today but it apparently allows you to save at a bed without sleeping. However it also includes owned beds, which isn't quite what I'm after.
