hoofhearted4
just need to be pointed in the right direction. dont know whos a good brand to look for or what a good price is, i have an i5-2500k cpu and a P67 mobo (though subject to change to a z68, idk about that yet lol) dont know how far i would be over clocking, its all new to me, i just wanna have a good heat sink for when i do try it. this is one ive found, ive heard good things about scythe:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185140 i was told once to go for the Mugen 2, but they are all sold out on newegg and tigerdirect. and the mugen 3 is $50 which is a little more expensive then the other scythe heatsink i listed and idk if there would be much of a difference between the two anyways... thresxx
If you want to really push that i5 with an overclock, you don't want a cheap cooler, LOL. I've heard good things about the Thermalright Venemous X paired with an i5-2500k.
hoofhearted4
i dont really wanna PUSH it at all. i never really planned on over clocking in the first place, but since it can, i might and i dont want the stock fan if i decide to OC, cause ive heard stock fans suck. im thinking about the Scythe Mugen 3 Edited July 13, 2011 by hoofhearted4
thresxx
Mugen 3 is good, if a bit large. Just make sure you have enough room in your case, and proper RAM clearance. If you aren't really going to overclock you can save a few dollars and get the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ it's pretty awesome for the price.
hoofhearted4
hmm, well i wouldnt know if it would fit or clearances or anything until i buy it. and thanks, ill check it out :) the coolermaster hyper 212+ and the Scythe Mugen 3 are both $50...no price difference i think ill go with the 212+ because its a little smaller, and i have no clue what would fit in my case or not (HAF 922) Edited July 13, 2011 by hoofhearted4
hoofhearted4
this heatsink that you listed looks pretty good. cheaper and with a rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233040&cm_re=Balder-_-35-233-040-_-Product however the 212+ albeit more expensive has direct heatpipe contact, and from what ive read, thats very very good. Illiad86
My boyfriend has the earlier model of that heatsink for his Athlon x2. Only problem I see with that heatsink, at least with AM2/AM3 boards, is how it clips on. The cooler is quite heavy and doesn't make good enough contact with his CPU. Those types are supposed to be one of the best to keep CPUs cool, but with its weight and the clip design of the AM2/AM3 processors, it does a pretty horrible job. My stock Phenom cooler (on a Phenom II x4) keeps my CPU at 34C idle and never goes above 60C on full load. His CPU sits at 45C idle and goes up to 62-65C on load. If his case was laying down, it would make better contact, the weight seems to be pulling it from the CPU just enough to affect the temps. He's quite jealous that my stock cooler keeps my 125W CPU cooler than his 65W :P lol I think it will be fine with Intel though, as their clip design is much better. It's a nice cooler, it's pretty big as well. As long as you are not getting RAM with massive heat spreaders on top, it will clear the RAM and you'll be good to go  Edited July 15, 2011 by Illiad86
hoofhearted4
which heatsink are you talking about? :) and actually i think my RAM does have some pretty big heat spreaders.....8bg G.Skill Ripjaw 1333
