Gracinfields
Actually all the DLC's are likely to be in a self contained map instance like they where in Fallout 3.
adman85
Alright, major problem, The spawns that I placed don't seem to notice me at all, even when shooting at them or walking right up to them the creatures just try to run away. They act like I'm invisible when i'm not shooting, which is weird because they were attacking each other just fine.. Anyone know why this may be? EDIT; It seems as though creatures with inbuilt ranged weapons (mr gutsy, fire geckos) will use their ranged weapons on the PC if you get within range, but it doesn't look like they chase at all, the fire geckos in particular, simply stand and wait for you to get close enough to use their breath attack on you. No melee attempts are even attempted at the PC, but as I said they DO attack each other. Is this a navmesh problem or some such? adman85
I also wanted to say thanks for all the comments and stuff guys. I really wanna get this going properly, and this is seemingly the only problem as the creatures fight each other and move around just fine. Is this a navmesh problem or some such?I do happen to know why this happens, it's your AI behavior, for instance if you look at a raider you will see that their AI is to attack on sight and patrol around certain areas and even to use a certain combat method. While an NCR ranger is different, they patrol the desert (or the big ranger house with the lake near it) and use different combat tactics and only attack on sight if you are an enemy. It's all in the behavior settings or AI paths. Just examine NPCs more closely and you should see what I am talking about.
adman85
I'l give that a try the next time I can, but it was lost of different creatures doing it, IE robots would fire their plasma weapons at you, from a standing position, which is fine, but yeah fire geckos would wait for me to get in range before fire attacking, and melee attackers acted like I was invisible, also I saw a creature out there (that I had placed) with a gun, but he ran away like the others leading me to believe that only creatures with automatically equipped ranged weapons are attacking. But at least its somewhere to look, thanks Hadoumastery. Maybe if i put the creatures on patrol routes (i think I know how to do this but I'm not 100%) it would force them to attack. I'll do some more checking and testing and be back. But keep piling on ideas and theories as I am listening to them all. Locations and possible "faction" territories would be sweet too, eg like east of hoover dam or south of mojave outpost being NCR controlled in part (At the moment I'm using a mod which adds the ability to unlock that Mojave Outpost gate and adds a little town, its not that great, but it opens the gate at least, also it doesnt have BTBs problems). Names and distances, or directions to the empty parts. It makes it muuuuch easier to find them in the geck and it's easier then going randomly around like I am (i haven't explored every location, but as long as its labeled similarly in the geck, i'll find it). P.S. Yeah I'm definitely gonna have to put legion in the south east corner.. Maybe I could make a huge tactics style base for assaulting... In fact maybe I should make a bunch of things like that.... Hmmmm.. Now i'm excited. It will have to be in the vast majority exteriors, but as long as placing exterior buildings is like placing creatures I should be okay.. As in walls, turrets, small or broken buildings (for cover and aesthetic purposes), tents etc. Edited July 11, 2011 by adman85
adman85
Oh my it really is as simple as drag and drop for ruined buildings, etc... :D that is really awesome. I still don't understand why the monsters placed out there don't target the PC. Can you explain how to fix this problem Hadoumastery? Would I have to change each creature, or create "new" (copied old with different ai) creatures or do I have to just change the default AI packages? I'm really not sure. As for the LOD issues, I don't think I can see the buildings I place from really far away, they seem to pop up when they get within the radius of my normal object loading distance, not the distant LOD one (noob alert).. Do I have to set these kinds of buildings to long range LOD? (and if so how?) I might start a new topic just for these questions, but it'd be great for a quick fix or even if it means you're shooting down my dreams here.. I just mostly want to know if this CAN be done properly before I start too seriously. All i'm really doing at the moment is testing by trial in my spare time, and that can take a while. EDIT; It seems that npc's (fiends in this example) use their guns normally and even seem to go for cover. Though all the melee guys still act like idiots.. weird.. I guess I'll just have to put down ranged characters.. No not really, I have to find a fix as it can't be a desert without radscorpions. EDIT again; I have been informed by the masterful Q that doing any of this would require navmeshing the whole area, as I suspected, Dagnammit anyone out there willing to navmesh miles and miles of open space?... *tumbleweed sails past* Edited July 11, 2011 by adman85

adman85
@scrivener07 Hey mate, if you want to check out these places i'm talking about get Invisible Wall Remover http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=42285 And i'm using this mod to open the mojave outpost gates.. It's not a fantastic mod, but it opens those gates so you can see the areas i'm talking about really easily (and they go WAAAY off the normal map, so don't worry about that). http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36356 (hint, steal the key from the shack to the left of the gate itself) As for what i've done, (which was mostly testing), I did plonk down a few enemies but I got disheartened by the idea of navmeshing such MASSIVE areas.. Apparently no navmeshing means the PC can walk around (with no companions) and ranged enemies, like snipers and most robots will attack him though no melee combatants will even register him.. But i'm not even going to bother unless I can get some people willing to help navmesh (I barely even know how it works so..)
hadoumastery
@Adman Hey, sorry I took so long to get back to you. But yeah, I've always taken something close to what I want and then given it a new name and behaviors/equipment. This seems to work better and is much easier than creating an entirely new creature or NPC especially when you take into account they need the proper faction status. Without the right faction status they won't attack at all. Or, without the right AI behavior.
MyGoodEye
If I may shamelessly self-promote, I've actually added 4 off-the-map cities in WARZONES: http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40980 Past the MOJAVE OUTPOST is BARSTOW (which is huge) Past the TUMBLEWEED RANCH is CORN CREEK Near JACOBSTOWN (sorta) is a huge mountainside battle And near RAUL'S SHACK is a new town/hotel/spa area called COYOTE SPRINGS. I took my gamble figuring that the DLCs would be self-contained worldspaces and so far, so good. Hope you don't mind me jumping in here.
