Rigging weapons?

So...I decided to take up modding. Again.

I'm not new to this, and i've done it a thousand times before. about two or three years ago.

Of course, the fact that i've done it before didn't stop me from running into problems.

So here's the thing:

I have a sword, divided into two meshes, the sword itself and the sheath.

Question is, how should i rig it in order for it to work properly? As in:

1. It is an actual rag doll, and not a static mesh with a collision mesh that is a rag doll.

2. Pulling out the sword pulls out the sword only, and not the sheath as well.

3. It's not a static mesh as in Morrowind-static.

Please help. Any feedback is appreciated.

Also, i'm using 3ds Max. Meh, guess i'll just have to learn how to use blender.

Sorry, you didn't mention that in the 1st post.

I think you also need to be using a very specific version of 3ds Max for the plugins to work correctly.

I am working on compiling the 3ds Max plugin for the new 2012 SDK in a newer version of C++ but don't hold your breath on it. There are a TON of problems that need to be fixed before it will compile and even then, I'm not sure it will be as functional as it was in Max8...at least not until the plugin is updated but they need somebody like me to hack through all the problems to get it on a newer version of Max SDK and C++ before they can really continue development on it.

Ah, so it is on the Nexus. Google just linked me to the TESA page.

I have that tutorial posted in many places.

So i fired up blender. It's breaking my balls, but it seems to be working. Thanks again for all the help.

And special thanks to LHammonds for writing such awesome tutorials.

EDIT: Also, thanks to LHammonds for pointing me in the direction to finding a way to do it in 3ds Max.
