suzypike
I've played both an believe Morrowind is better. Its hard to explain why.. more variety, so many unique people and places, and the things you do and decisions you make have more of a point. When its modded, I think it looks just as good as oblivion.Check out thread on Morrowind Mod Forum called "Best Mods" There are so many good suggestions. Just for starters: CreaturesX by Piratelord, also his economy overhaul mod, better bodies, better heads, graphics by Vurt, Darknut, Vality.. oh and there are several mods for combat - one that gets rid of the annoying missing, a blocking mod, etc. look in TESNexus files under Gameplay.Morrowind has more depth and complexity. And the Modding community have created graphics that rival Oblivion.Have fun! suzy

It's not the combat that's bad, it's your character. Morrowind is about the characters skill rather than the players. A low Long Sword skill will mean you miss often with that weapon, as you build that skill up you'll find the character misses less. Spell casting failure is the same, a low skill and you'll fail often, a higher skill and you'll fail less or not at all depending on the level of the spell. As for text, I'd much rather read something interesting than listen to the same few actors reading snippets of banal dialogue. This is worth reading.... http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Morrowind_for_Oblivion_Players

I played it out-of-the-box back in the day and enjoyed it immensely, then started with mods later. I liked the world and the freaky creatures, vampires, the werewolves, dagon sleepers and the Daedra ruins. If you can't even get that far it's probably not for you since it sounds like you dislike it already. I mean sure, unmodded now, it looks bad but the core mechanics are still there. Arkayjiya
With a mentality like that (I'm not criticizing, everyone has the right to like whatever he wants in videogames) I don't think you should try the game. What makes morrowind great is the background, the immersion in the universe. If you don't like the creatures, if you absolutely need the good gameplay (except for the spells variety, morrowind gameplay is really boring. Even if some mods fix it a little of it). What makes morrowind great is also partially the fact that there is no voice acting (less voice actiing : more secondary dialogues about the universes, the people or sometimes about totally useless but immersives things). All the first part of the main quest is gathering informations and reading books and scrolls. Even after, you'll have a lot to read. You can of course go exploring cave and fighting monsters but the exploration part is more rewarding than the combat one. So if I were you, I would only try it if I was able to ignore a poor gameplay, liked the universe and was ready to read a lot. Balakirev
I like to recommend this information to Oblivion players about to venture into Morrowind: Morrowind for Oblivion Players And remember, there are always mods to add to the game, too. leirynot
Morrowind is definitely worth it, not sure how, but I''ve heard there is a way to import most of the quests, weapons, ect. into Oblivion, so it is like Morrowind with the Oblivion graphics and combat system. Aside from the combat system and graphics, Morrowind is much better than Oblivion in my opinion, there is a lot more to do and it's harder, you also have to make more choices in Morrowind as to what guilds you join and so on. chronosmagus
For me, Oblivion was the first of the TES series I played. Once I discovered mods and the ability to shape the world to my optimal experience I spend so many hours, until replaying become less of an option due to having been everywhere. I don't really like custom content, just immersion-improving mods and gameplay tweaks. So eventually I considered playing Morrowind, seeing it should contain a vast amount of content I hadn't seen yet. At first I have to admit it was really difficult to get into it, in the same way I got into Oblivion. The way you interact with people is so different (you click on 'topic links' inside text) and the difficulty curve for combat is different because it relies more on stats than on your actions. After a while though, it got better and better. With various mods it can look as good as Oblivion and the unique setting of Morrowind makes the world so much more interesting than Tamriel. I remember going into the smugglers cave just outside the starting town, I died 3 times before I got through it, and it was so much more exciting. I'll see if I can find a list of the mods I use and really recommend on trying this game. There's so much depth and if you can get past the initial lack of features you're used to from Oblivion, you will find it difficult to choose between the two.
