So how, if at all, will Bethesda.net affect the Nexus ?

It is completely hilarious and utterly ironic that an official Bethesda community representative posted a stickied forum post on their own forums asking people to "disable mods installed from third party sites".

Now, what I really need is a way to disable and remove Bethesda.net from my game. Hopefully Bethesda will post another topic telling us how to do that too.

Just make a forum post. [Disable Fallout.net]

I would like to request a way to disable Fallout.net so that it stops breaking my game, achievements, other mods, and script extender. I understand that these things are not supported by Bethesda, but Fallout.Net and Fallout Mods from Fallout.Net has made it currently impossible to actually mod my game. Since I like mods, but hate having my game broken by Bethesda mods, I would like a way to disable the feature since it has proven destructive. Thank you for your time.

Here's a clue for the clueless. Microsoft just announced it is BANNING 'third party' search engine apps (like from Google) on its new Edge browser. This is how corporations think and act when they believe they can impose a MONOPOLY on some aspect of a software service under their control.

Of course Beth, like Microsoft when Edge was first released, tells the world that the competing services may continue as before. Don't believe a word of it. If Beth.net takes off, Beth will close down mods for its game on Nexus.

The fate of Nexus is in YOUR hands. Use it rather than beth.net for mods, and beth will think ten times before making the kind of foolish decision that led to the DISASTER of paid mods for Skyrim. Give Beth power, on the other hand, and they will use that power badly.

Beth propagandists are already being briefed to tell the world it is just too 'dangerous' to allow non-Beth approved mods to freely exist- which is the SAME excuse Microsoft used in banning Google from Edge. Business is war.

Wow Bethesda are getting pushy. It makes me wonder if they deliberately have been breaking mods with updates to get people to use their site. In their mission to be recognized more as a major games developer they seem to be going down a darker route. Beth.net will be very popular with consoles because.... they have no other choice but hopefully they will leave the nexus alone and in peace.

Behold what greed had wrought. As much as I hate to admit it, Bethesda is a company, companies exist to make money, money to a "suit" is the most important thing in the world, therefore... if they think they can get away with it they'll do everything possible including murder (drug companies) to make money. There is no doubt in my mind that Bethesda would screw over Nexus to corner the market on mods. However, I think they are greatly over-estimating how much they can milk modders for content to keep their games popular should they decide to make war upon Nexus for some extra scraps of money. I can tell you now... I do this as a hobby, and if Bethesda muscles Nexus out... then I'll stop modding. Furthermore, I'm not the only one who thinks like this... and I think Bethesda suits have greatly underestimated exactly how much they are playing with fire in this situation. Modders make sure Bethesda products are popular long past a natural shelf life, and the last thing they should want is for us to stop doing what we are doing, because if we do stop...

Down with corporate greed and all that, but in this case I think you guys are grossly overreacting. The post registrator2000 linked lists a number of perfectly reasonable steps to follow "When running into compatibility issues after a patch update while running with mods installed from third party sites". The uninstalling are re-installing of the game is a bit much and probably unnecessary, but everything else is actually a good idea.

That's especially true for users who don't really know what they're doing, which is probably most of the people who need to read that post. I have this post from the mod authors forum fresh in my mind as I say all this. If you can't access that forum, the post basically complains about the high number of users who installed UI mods that are now incompatible with 1.5, and who don't know how to clean up loose files and solve the problem.

I think you are really reaching if you see that community representative's post as evidence of Bethesda moving to monopolize modding.
