A .NIF file is corrupt! Help!

When I go into the Fort Roebeck Winter Station, there's a big yellow shape in there, in one of the rooms, instead of whatever should be there.

I tried loading the cell in the Construction Set, and I get an error message saying that the file "lights \ MiddleCandlestickFloor01Evil.NIF" will be replaced by the marker file.

I'm not sure how to fix it. If someone would post a copy of that particular NIF file, I could put it in the lights folder, (assuming there is one!) over-writing the old file if necessary.

Or is there something else I should do?

Many many thanks in advance if you can help me out.

The nif is not corrupt. But the name of the nif from the meshes\lights folder should be MiddleCandlestickEvilFloor01.NIF, not MiddleCandlestickFloor01Evil.NIF. But looking into CS, I cannot find a static object using either one of those nifs.

However there is an object "Candelabrum02Evil", which uses a nif called MiddleCandlestickFloor01Evil.NIF, but this nif is from the meshes\clutter folder. AND this object is used nowhere in the vanilla game.

So either way it must be a mod which adds that light but uses a wrong nif name/path in the object definition.

Which mods do you open in CS besides Oblivion.esm?

Hi! Thanks so much for the helpful understanding, I only opened the Oblivion.esm in the Construction Set, but the mods I'm using in the game at the moment are:

FastExit_2,

obse_0019

obmm_1_1_12

AddMapMarkers

anvil assassin thief house fixed

Biene Amelion AI Fix

Clearer Underwater

Colorwheels Sexy Companion HGEC V 1_2

Colorwheels Sexy Female NPCs

Cute Elves normal version

Daedric Crescent Blade (I haven't reached this quest in the game yet, so I don't know whether it involves Fort Roebeck or not.)

Harvest Containers

Quickstart

See You Sleep

Skin-toned Mannequins

Sleep on Command

Doomstone Map Markers

Wayshrine Map Markers

Whispered Warning

Phew! That took longer than I thought it would, to type it all up and check all of the URLs.

I also sometimes use other mods as well, but I haven't used them for quite a while.

I hope this helps us get to the bottom of which mod changed the .nif file, and how we can change it back.

In my meshes folder, there's no folder called "lights". Maybe that's why it's missing. There are plenty of other lights in the game, though, all working correctly.

In my meshes/clutter folder, there are a lot of .nif files for ingredients, but none for lights.

Thanks for all your help

Prolovegirl, I am so sorry that you spent so much time on your mod list. It's really not necessary to make a linked list for that. And I could have guessed that you have not opened any mod besides Oblivion.esm with the CS.

You don't see the problematic files in your data structure, because it's a standard file, and standard files reside compressed in the game's bsa files. Unless a mod has put a modified or un-modified version of this file in there.

In your case it seems to be an Oblivion bug, and you have simply not the newest version of the game, which is Shivering Isles. Or use the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. I found a description of the bug in Oblivion:Minor Glitches.
