alexanderkahn2009
Anyone remember the Shi? And how they were way more advanced than even the Brotherhood, were at the forefront of technology (by the time of New Vegas's timeline, they would ahve rediscovered nuclear fusion power), shared their technology and research with the NCR, aided the NCR and even supplies the NCR with extremely high tech energy weapons (gatling lasers, plasma casters, multiplas rifles and tri beam lasers) and even rebuild (and even new) sets of T-51b and T-51c power armour. Now, New Vegas happened many years after Fallout 2, and yet the NCR still uses very little in the way of energy weapons and power armour, when, if the trade with the Shi continued, or grew, as Fallout Lore suggests, then shouldnt the NCR be using power armour and energy weapons that outclass even the BoS?Because, didnt Falout 2 take place in 2241, and in new Vegas we're in the 2280's, so thats more than enough time for the NCR to make use of the technology of the Shi.... And why isnt there any mention of the Shi in New Vegas?
ita
Hm, from where did you get the part about the Shi sharing tech with the NCR?
alexanderkahn2009
Hm, from where did you get the part about the Shi sharing tech with the NCR? Says in the Fallout Wiki called the 'Vault' that the Shi were more than happy to trade tech and arms with the NCR in return for protection by the NCR's much larger military. It also says that the real power of the Shi is their research potential and industrial might (much like modern China) so trading high tech weapons/armour and advanced tech like nuclear technology to rebuild California's infrastructure and utilities, like the NCR seems to want to do, would make sense. EDIT: Maybe Obsidian made the NCR the way they are because giving them all power armour and energy weapons would mean the Legion would have no way in hell of defeating them. ita
Yeah you're right, I just read the wiki and it states that the Shi are part of the NCR. By 2281, the Shi have effectively became a part of the NCR. Though I'm fairly sure that it's hinted in-game that the NCR force in the Mojave is relatively small and poorly supplied, with the best troops and equipment remaining in California to protect NCR territory. Been poorly supplied is a good excuse, as if the NCR has all the best stuff then they'd always win.... But no mention is made ingame about better equipt troops...quite odd if you ask me. I hope that if they do a DLC based in the Core Region, the NCR has high tech stuff...
huntsman2310a
yeah, and since the Shi hve intergrated into NCR, they probably make up a majority of the NCR research division (I forget the name). And maybe the reason why NCR troops in New Vegas have such........s*** equipment is because they are operating beyond the border, which mean advanced supply caravans would have to travel through possibly uncharted and hostile territory. This actually makes sense now........the NCR troops AREN'T shitty by choice.
marharth
It could just be that in the long time between the trade, the NCR grew and expanded and quit caring about them. They are much smaller then the NCR, the weapons they had should of run out in 40 years.
bronco668
as i remember there where several paths you could take wit Fallout 2 ( gotta replay it still ) the SHI even had their own space craft and where manufacturing weapons and probably ammo, they came to america by sub i believe -- maybe an atomic sub --- and they could go independent or join could have been that their was thrd option but i dont remember. But if they joined the NCR then they have a good position in the New California Republic , and they were mostly recearchers and scientists not soldiers thats why they asked the PC to take care of some bad guys in their domain. and while at the Mojave Outpost sargeant Knight mentioned that caravans with energy Weapons were being Wiped out so they stopped importing Energy Weapons all together ( still dont know who's doing that --- at first thought it was the Enclave wich needed the Energy Weapons to build up their forces --- dont tell me to ) so that explains why you dont see that much energy weapons with the NCR. (( if you install the EVE mod then you'lll get energy weapons quitte early and also nicer visuals and laser effects , and some new energy weapons-- maybe more even but i dont know for sure It has been atleast some 7 years if not more when i played Fallout 2 thoroughly so i might not be compleetly accurate . No bronco burger for me !!!!!! I wanna herd Brahim --- oh yeah Edited July 19, 2011 by bronco668

mrlordfinder
i think that the NCR has to many troopers to give them all power armor and plasma weapons, and in the mojave is only a small fraction stationed to keep ceasar at bay.if whe got the chance to travel to the NCR cities in the west i think that we will see much more restored industry, cars ( the wiki says the NCR has cars, only not that many ), factories and power armored troopers :) Edited July 26, 2011 by mrlordfinder
