CliffordConan
Okay this is probably going to sound like a stupid question but here it goes. I recently got Fallout 3 GOTY Edition and it's been great but I installed it into it's default place which was program files. I found out that if you install it into this place then you encounter a lot of problems if you want to mod it up if you are a Vista user. As I am a Vista user I tried to remedy the problem by unistalling and reinstalling it but I don't know how to redirect the installation so it doesn't end up in program files again. If there is already a thread up about this then it would be great if I could be directed towards it.
Gracinfields
So when the CD runs and starts the setup.exe it is not giving you the option of places to install it to?
CliffordConan
So when the CD runs and starts the setup.exe it is not giving you the option of places to install it to? It's not on CD I bought it off of steam and downloaded it. I think it gave me the option initially but when I tried reinstalling it, it didn't have the option. BlackRampage
I'm guessing your Steam is installed in program files, right? Well, since any games which require steam to run are also installed in Steam's own directory, you should install Steam itself in a different location.
CliffordConan
Sweet! Thanks man! Although I suspect that once I start Fallout up again I won't have any of my saves there. I have my saves in a little folder on my desktop is there any way I can import them or something so I can go from where I left off?

If the folder doesn't exist yet, you should probably start FO3, save your game and it should be there. prensa
CliffordConan - Hello! I don't use Steam so I'm not sure if the savegames are stored elsewhere with that setup but normally all you'd have to do is move your savegames back into: On Win7: C:\Users\ YOUR NAME \Documents\My Games\Fallout3\Saves On XP: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 & you can play as normal. Hope this helps! Prensa

prensa
BlackRampage - Hello! You beat me by a few minutes! You must have got your reply in just as I was doing mine, I must be getting slow.... :) I think your right about Vista saves being the same location as Win7 too. Gracinfields
Well if steam installed Fallout 3 it will have installed to program files\steam\steamapp\Fallout 3 or program files (x86)\steam\steamapp\Fallout 3 you can not change this location or steam will not be able to find the file at all.
