Survival Mode...ridiculous or just not fun?

toning down the bullet sponging is a good thing, there's more than a few mods for this, I kind of edged away from them but now I'm seeing some of that wonderful fallout 1-2 balance work by being only slightly easier on the damage to targets than those mods

that said this game is a lot more of an FPS than previous titles, so actual implementation of various survival concepts can be a bit difficult in some regards, I suspect a proper survival retooling would have to change a few areas slightly (maybe making supplies a lot less common) and so on
it's what I've done, I've basically made it so that I'm about 1.2x -1.5x as strong statwise as any given raider, modded armours to kind of reflect their fallout 1-2 variants (metal is physical, combat is general, leather is enregy and light for stealth purposes, institute is basically upgraded but heavier leather at combat armour's tier where you may find yourself having issues with some stealth play at times and need to resort to fighting

I've reduced likelihood of finding stuff (less loot and ammo, modded the flies to go from like 75% chance none to like, 97-96% for .308's from perk scrounger, 86-92ish for .38 about 88% for .45 etc etc etc
makes the simple access to the amount of bullets make lesser guns more useful again, for now I've kept bullet values as they are but there's always the option to up all the bullet values up by 1, except for railroad nails and 5mm
been finding a favourite in the M9 and mac-11 (I've made it use 5mm but lowered its damage) and laser guns
I also made missiles weigh 4 instead of 7, because seriously, they're expensive and 4's plenty heavy anyways

and i was just about to post something like this asking someone if they could to fix it. i fairly gotten my game to work for the most point. just crash always in a few areas by that "fun land with mr handy s taking care.. err um killing everyone. but i found my self needing to drink and eat WAY to many times in the game. and i need to sleep all the time and if i dont i get this stuip bug (not a game bug) where i have to take a antibiotic to get ride of being "over tired." how stupid! i just got dun sleeping 12 hrs and im already in the red to sleep some more.. COME-ON same for eating and or drinking. i can slightly understand needing to drink something after you take a chem. like irl some make u very thirsty/ BUT i should not need to keep eating a very unreal amount of foor or dream inhuman amounts of water. everything they added does not feel like survival it feels more like a chore. if they really want to know how a real survival game is try 7 days to die and how they have the water and food was set up, and U CAN SEE HOW U FEEL not this look at you pip-boy tell me about being laze about adding more UI to understand how ur player is handling his or her self..

and the things they left out for this mod is the ability to place down your sleeping bed, doctors bag to fix broken bones ect. (as stated in the game i stated u heal over time and your def over all takes a hit when u take damage.. (or die)

I agree. If you just like building settlements then really survival is not a priority.

Actually, I find building settlements to be a useful tool in Survival Mode - they provide safe haven, merchants and supplies if set up properly.

I establish two kinds - Settlements and Outposts:

Settlements are the fully functioning villages that are usually built in the vanilla game; they have farmers growing food ("adhesive" foods of course), crafting stations, security and merchants (of which, one is always a Doctor). Generally speaking, I'll only have one Settlement in a given region.

Outposts are there only to provide a place to sleep, a place to cook, a flesh water supply and a supply cache; a small cottage with no settlers present. Outposts make up the majority of player-controlled locations in a given region.

That way, you spend less time traveling back and forth between home and radiant quests, because the your "home" is your entire settlement network.

What? Just WHAT!?

Don't look at the Fallout 4 pictures on my profile then jeez...I make art and I'm fairly close to having picked up like everything all the mags, boobleheads, tapes, you name it.

My settlements are freakin cool as shiz, I use Place Anywhere, Homemaker, and OCD....everything else is pretty much vanilla except for ENB and sweetfx combo to make the game look even better.

Another thing, too survival players.

Being not able to hit ESC save everytime, everywhere is a good feature in any survival game that wants me to take its mode seriously so all I gotta say on that topic is your on a modding site if you don't understand that its optional than WTF are you here for anyway.

I don't sneak kill stuff, and I don't use VATs and I don't use JET those are cheaty you may as well console command TGM.........I use first person skills bud and I really haven't met a bullet sponge I couldn't kill quickly with my flame sword or a trusty wrench I like to call the Duck. Cause you better duck or get your head bashed in. Cant believe people saying melee is weak..........Melee is freaking overpowered in this game.

I cannot believe how many times I've read that "you can only do crits in VATs".....Not true and I'm not using stealth to get those crits.

Want to crit with a gun use the right chems!

Want to crit with Melee>?

Guess what you have a Power Attack for a reason guys....Oh yes it crits heck man nothing in Survival is hard if you plan and none of the games you've mentioned or mods are hard either if you plan....

If you understand what to do and go about it your good.

Here's the thing.....Survival as it is now is a good thing....

It makes each item that people didn't bother to use worth while...

Sure the game should have shipped with it but that's what happens in a business they have to produce stuff to sell not sit on it for another seven years.

I have more than gotten my dollar value out of this game.

If you don't like it guess what the GECK Beta is out for general PC use go get it.

I've got about 40 mods I've made what have you guys done?

Complained.

If your still trying to play Survival Mode like regular mode your doing it wrong.

Stim Pacs are not for healing your Hit Points./

Its for fixing broken limbs.

You have a huge variety pack of better items to use to heal up hit points including sleep.

IF your getting one shot..........What the frick build did you bring and why are you trying to be Rambo durr.

There are a ton and I mean a veritable s ton of perks in different tree's you could have gone for to make yourself durable but nooo you went INT and decided not to use drugs or invest in Nerd Rage....

Jeez I've read it all over at the Fo4 Boards I bet one of guys thought your STR 1 build was perfect for survival and your just waiting for the right moment on these boards to cry about it to the world right?

I gotta complain about Survival on a Modding Board cause Im lame and don't want to open a Creation Kit or git gud.

Geez getting so tired of all this drival.

Wait... so I should play a game mode that makes the game hard, just so I can do things that make the game too easy again? This seems counter intuitive. Anyone who invests in Endurance isn't interested in hard mode.

But I am pretty sure nobody is mad about survival mode being too hard, because it isn't all that hard...

You just said you failed, so it's difficult, right?

So I don't understand your problem.

Because it makes failing incredibly menial, repetitive, and everything but fun.

there I don't agree.
I guess you are one of those guys who consider they *lose* hours of game if they die.
I am not: I enjoy my game even if my character dies, because what I enjoy is the immersive factor of the insecure feeling.
I never understand that "losing" thing. Those hours of play are for you, you can't lose them. It's not a job.

If its not hard enough for you then may I suggest surfing a modding site called Nexus for actual game mods or perhaps you can cut your teeth on the Creation Kit there bud.

Can you just imagine when they download a mod that demands a new game start>?

Haha haha ahhh....

I already know how to use the Creation Kit, as well as half a dozen other tools for making mods. I have in fact spent several years working on indie games and other game related projects...

I already have made my game work the way I want to play it.

But as someone who has an interest in game design, I am making a critique on the poor design choices and how unoriginal and uncreative it was for Bethesda to try to make things harder by taking saves out of the game.

Just a critique. I am happy with how I have modified my own game.

Games are a story telling medium. If I have to spend 4x as long to complete the main quest of a game because I had to repeat stuff multiple times, that is time out of my life that I have lost. I could have played 3 other games in that time, I could have finished my mod in that time, I could have learned to play guitar in that time...

I'm not interested in the silly concept of thinking I am somehow better than other people because I could beat such and such game without dieing. I want an experience, not bragging rights.
