Twenched
Basically my roommate just copied my entire FO3 to his computer via network. We have noticed that more often than not my version is totally stable but his tends to get massive CTDs. I'm running FWE, EVE, MMM, WMK, CMRS, Destruction xCALIBR, BLTC and Fellout. My load order is BOSS inspired with minor tweaks to preserve some functionality. I can usually run just fine with just a merged patch although I master update anyway. Recently I tested the DLC Refurbish mod from JustinOther and was unable to master update because of how it works. FO3 runs fine for me but after testing we HAD to remove the mod and master update to get it to a relatively stable status on the other computer. I know this is a OS issue. I am running XP sp3 and he has Windows7 64bit. Anyone have any ideas?

GrindedStone
Win7 had so many technical support posts in this forum that 86% of the diagnostic members posting to the tech support board Quote "Found something else to do" XP had just as many problems at FO3 launch, but we had 3 years to figure it out. There is more that can "go wrong" with Vista/Win7 an that's why it does. Fallout New Vegas deals with it somewhat along with STEAM support. I haven't seen even anything close to a definitive answer on how to run Gamebyro on 32 bit Vista/Win7. Safe to say that 64 bit technology exacerbates the issue, but the 64 bit part seems easy to fix, by adding support for 32 bit foundation software. The big problem here is that you broke the EULA. Nexus is against that. Fallout 3 you can play for over 3 years, so it's worth the money. Though, it boils down to the recommended or minimum requirements. Which it should provide support for Win7 Vista XP, being a AAA game. Edited July 21, 2011 by GrindedStone
Twenched
this part reads as confession to software piracy Haha, I can see how it may look like that. We both own retail copies of the game. What I meant is that the folder containing the mods and was copied so we are running the same modded version of the game. :D
GrindedStone
You need to play FO3 on the Win7 machine without any mods for a week or so. See how well it's going to run. Then add mods to that one at a time an test more. On XP 32 I run Visual C++, Microsoft .NET framework 1 2 3 4, just as an example, but I wouldn't have a clue what to use on a vista/win7 machine. I hear Steam says to install both 32 an 64 bit versions of some of these foundation softwares, also players report un-installing an installing them again help with crashes. All I know is Vista issues an it's not very much. installed outside of program files, run as admin, run in compatiblity for windows XP SP3, and there are a few tweeks maybe. I don't know much else you would have to search Vista or Win7 an get to reading. You could also contact support for the game if it does the same thing without mods. GrindedStone
I liked the article. It's not correct. Notice how quickly the article downplays the useage of mods as to a cause.Dirty mods an save games can cause the exact problem. I would visit Steam support an even contact them. There are a few tips for Vista users there which is more helpful than the Wiki article which lacks suggestions.Fallout 3 will totally run on Win7, the problem is figuring out how to configure FO3 an Win7 to allow that. It sounds exactly like the issues that I've had in the past with poorly made installs. The first step would be to get rid of those mods an focus on vanilla game testing.STEAM support would come in there, with suggestions like, install both the 32 bit an 64 bit versions of Visual C++You would have to go visit STEAM support FAQ though, I didn't read into it. Twenched
He found a solution somewhere in the visual settings... Spent hours toggling things until it smoothed things out. Still not perfect but playable. Thanks for all the help.
