Getting bored when helping the Boomers

Boomer Mods that need to be made:

Working Flight Simulator

Artillery "Simulator" (in 3-D glory!)

Bomb-the-Base

Drop-the-Nuke (c'mon, a B-29, Fallout world, and not a single reference to the nuclear bomb?!!!

capture the flag, now with explosives.

and, yet-another-underwhelming-side-quest-to gain-an-ally-that-never-does-anything-until-the final-battle-despite-having-enough-weapons-to-wipe-out-a-city... but that's what Vanilla's for, right?

Working Flight Simulator and Artillery simulator for the win.

Funny im helping them right now..

Just fixed generators..a snap..

My beef is having to run around a 5 km wide airbase

. I only just got vegas.. after like 300 hours on f3 and all dlc's. Im level 8 now.. And..

i have one thing different to most. HAVE NEVER USED V.A.T.S.. ever.. normal [dif]

Try playing without vats..like im sure it is harder.. no? Simply because the f**kers skitter around so much and its a *censored* to pin them down and frag em

luckily im good at it

The Boomer quests. Oh joy.

Despite the fact that I have ran to Nellis in like, six playthroughs, I still get pwned by their artillery shells at least twice -_-

Still, the mind numbing and almost unavoidable quests pay off, at least for me, when they rain hell onto those Legion tools at Hoover.

I only did the artillery legit once.

Not a fan of the Boomer missions, but I've managed to get them down to a science - a good repair skill and science skill can get the ants and solar panels quests done fast, listening to the kid tell the Boomer history is easy enough, and if your medicine skill is good you can fix most of the patients in the clinic, all in about 20 minutes of playing time. That usually lets me hit Idolized with the Boomers. Getting the plane always sucks, though - Lakelurks and Cazadores, ugh.

heh, I never found the boomer quests difficult, mildly tedious running from place to place (down to the crimson caravan, talk to the girl, back to the boomers, talk to them, -back- to the caravan again and finally back to the boomers -again- to see the results)

not to mention the half-mile of airbase to traverse with minimal fast-travel points available....

I hate long-distance fetch quests. I prefer long-term ones. where I collect things in passing rather than specifically going on a mission to find them...

case in point, the Willow companion mod's sub-quest to retrieve 40 pencils from the gameworld.

it gave me a reason to pay attention to the little details of the levels.

the quests in that mod were pretty well perfect for me, the travelling fitted with the path I was going to take without taking me far out of my way (bearing in mind my char probably wouldn't -want- to travel far out of his way given he's hurrying to catch up with benny at that point) and where the quests weren't just off the beaten path, they were long-term goals. or had multiple ways to complete them.

bleh, I digress. the boomer quests were alright. nothing really bad or unpleasant. just a bit tedious. too much running around, not enough challenge. it felt like filler material. even the eventual reward of having the boomers bombing the crap out of the legion for me just wasn't enough. it was nice seeing them overhead, but it didn't really make any difference to the massacre I dealt to the legion. I didn't care much for the characters, the most relevant thing they contributed to me was the rebreather. which I replaced quickly with the far better looking one in the Adv Recon Nightvision pack.

all in all, I avoid the boomers on the whole because I don't -care-.

I found it easy to get past the Boomers' artillery.

Yeah, I think it's really the exploding vehicles that do the damage. I always just run (regular run speed) while hugging the rock face to the fence and usually make it without even being injured that bad. It's hell on companions 'cuz even following a bit behind can be deadly, but boo freakin' hoo right?

It's almost criminal how easy it is to get idolized by those guys.

Still, one of the best lines ever in the game: "I'm sorry Lindsay, Mr. Cuddles is dead."

If the quests are boring you to death, you can just cram 19 (I think, I forget) Scrap Metals down Jack's throat. Then they're like "We love you!" without any running around. Although you can collect the array pieces while you're doing That Lucky Old Sun. As for how you get that much scrap metal, your best bet is to hide and steal from Novac and Primm, buy whenever you can (like Gun Runners) and just save up. Or if you have Old World Blues, you can feed Clipboards into the upgraded (Mulching) Book Cleaner. At the moment I have so much Scrap Metal, Electronics, Wonderglue and Duct Tape, that I just hoard Wrenches all the time.
