Chrophiss
Hi everyone, A while back i changed my combat helmet textures to something more black, as i liked the helmet but wanted it to be more black/darker.So i think i did the following:(This is all in my modfile btw and not in the vanilla game) * Opened modefile in GECK* Opened up my npc and its inventory* In the inventory i selected Combat helmet from the list, then opened the helmets information panel.* Decided to change its textures through: double clicking the helmet, then at Male Biped model pressed Edit.* Looked up suitable texture and accepted. Closed all windows, checked it in geck (all worked), then tested ingame. Ingame worked also, no problem.* Figured i didnt like the texture after all and change it back to normal, thought just undo all that i did and accept.* so said and done, i discovered while playing a mod (area 51 mod, so unrelated) that the soldiers helmets there were also changed into my texture.. But what the hell? i changed it. Looked at GECK again and it was true, even the GECk now showed the helmet it its former texture, so i figured i did something wrong, i checked and it still looks normal, normal textures paths and everything.Yet in GECK and game still wrong. Then i picked up a helmet and put it on to see if it would make any difference if the player character would wear it. answer is no, but i did noticed that ingame the Combat helmet ICON is also faulty now, something about cannot find PIP image or something. I saw a unique combat helmet in the geck, this one IS normal ingame, with icon aswell. Is there a way to copy this helmets info to the other or what do i do else? Thnx,Chrophiss EDIT: I tried fallout without my mod, turns out i changed the entire base model, so vanilla fallout has also been affected... Gribbleshnibit8
Unless you did something crazy, editing the FalloutNV.esm file is impossible in GECK. What more than likely happened is that the texture you used is named such that it overrides the texture used on the other helmet. Check that and see if it's the case. Chrophiss
Not sure what you mean.... Do you mean that the texture i changed is still overlapping the original? But how? and where? all texture paths read normal? (Blank) But if i didnt change the fallout vanilla game than how do you explain the fact that when i turn off my mod completely, the texture ingame is still wrong? because i saved maybe? Chrophiss
I still need some help with this. anyone?
davidlallen
There are two parts to a mod: the esp file (which you turn on or off using the "data files" page in the game) and the actual texture, mesh, sound etc files. If you have written over one of the game's texture files with your own file, then turning off your esp file doesn't fix that. Are any of the files under "Fallout New Vegas/data" created by you? They will show up with a recent date stamp.
nosisab
Removing the textures files you included reverts to vanilla. I hope you did not change the original BSA? :) If this is what you mean by changing the base model... this experience and reinstalling the game may be a good lesson on letting the originals untouched from now on. Chrophiss
As far as i know i didnt change anything about the model except the method i described earlier.as i had already tried to change it before by giving a vault door a "Nulltexture" to remove its door button. but that did not leave any permanent damage as far as i can tell. But that is because i think i created a new object by copying the vault door to myvaultdoor or something. though i dont see such an option with the helmet... and i think the reason that the texture doesnt change back anymore is probably because i saved somewhere... Maybe if i start a new game the texture will revert to its original ... ill try that sometime... Another question so i dont have to open a new topic. I have Fallout 3 installed now aswell as Fallout New Vegas. I allready notice a lot of the objects in fallout 3 are not present in fallout NV. Any chance i can copy the fallout 3 database to fallout NV or would that be impossible/stupid to do? thanks! Chrophiss
davidlallen
It is legal to merge items from FO3 into FNV *for your own personal use*. But it is illegal to upload a FNV mod which contains objects only available on FO3. There are directions in the fnvedit training guide on how to do this. (on copies of objects NOT original) anyways, thanks for all of your help and maybe we'll see eachother on the forum again :)
