What started as random crashes

Sorry for double post, I think I posted this thread in the wrong forum before.

Title/Description says it all. I recently reinstalled the game and decided to give hardcore mode a run for it's money. I installed several mods, nothing too silly I installed what seems to be the most popular mods on the site which is why I'm hoping for some good advice.

My load order is as follows.

00 - FalloutNV.esm

01 - Project Nevada.esm - Core

02 - Project Nevada.esm - Equipment

03 - AWorldOfPain(Preview).esm

04 - Honest Hearts.esm

05 - Primary Needs HUD.esm

06 - FNVToolkit.esm(Not even sure what this is.)

07 - Weapon Mod Expansion.esm

08 - aHUD.esm

09 - Nevada Skies.esp

0A - DarNifiedUINV.esp

0B - Project Nevada - Cyberare.esp

0C - Project Nevada - Rebalance.esp

0D - EVE FNV.esp

0E - Enhanced Blood Main NV.esp

0F - dD-Smaller Wounds.esp

10 - dD-Reduced Ragdoll Force.esp

11 - dD-Reduced Dismember Force.esp

12 - dD-Smaller Spatters Default.esp

13 - dD-Smaller Spatters Realistic.esp

14 - NAPA-NV 0.1.esp (Not even sure what this is.)

15 - FNVEnhancedShaders - AA-DOF Enable.esp

16 - Weapon Mod Expansion.esp

17 - Minimissilelauncher.esp

18 - Tactical Combat Gear.esp

19 - Desert Armor.esp

1A - Readius_NV.esp (Also has the 3500 pipboy mod installed to it)

1B - QS_Blackwolf_NV_Backpackmod.esp

1C - ShishkebabNoGlove.esp

1D - ShishkebabNoBackpack.esp

1E - Mossberg590.esp

1F - zaty1elimachete-EasyMode.esp (It's the machete from Book of Eli)

20 - The Mod Configuration Menu.esp

21 - GrenadeHotkey.esp

That's.. a lot now that I look at it. :D I'm sure half the reason I am crashing is that I have farrrrr too many mods running at once but, I do truly love the way I have the game set up at the moment. If any of you experts out that have any advice for me please let me know, I am heavily into playing this right now and would love to continue. Thank you for even reading this far :)

Edit: Quick Update, my problem with crashing seems to be whenever I want to zone into a new area. So far I've only tried going into The Strip and McCaraan because I have a quesst there and such, though it has only crashed while entering The Strip, I should also note that the load screen finishes, the wheel turns and all that but once it should load the new area my game begins to crash. I tried reinstallling readius becasue it has given me countless problems in the past but that does not seem to be it.

Edit 2: Ok it crashed after I fast traveled into fiend territory, but it was not the same as The Strip crashing. This time I managed to be in the area for a second or two and walk around but after that is immediately crashed.

Disable the grenade hotkey mod, Project Nevada already has it build it.

I can't seem to find any other conflicts. Are you running a modded d3d9.dll? Could be causing crashes too.

The only thing I can recommend is to follow this guide on how to optimize New Vegas.

Also, try typing in "pcb" in the console before entering a cell.

You open the console with the tilde "~" key, its left next to 1.

FNVtoolkit is a modders resource, you can delete it if you're not modding. Move Nevada Skies down to the bottom and Readius to the top (right under the .esm's). Here's what got some of us out of the crash/hang cycle:

Download and install fnv4gb NVSE - http://nvse.silverlock.org/beta/fnv4gb_nvse.zip - to your SteamApps\common\fallout new vegas\ folder, make a shortcut to you desktop and launch the game from the shortcut (if you run a 64 bit OS)

Download and install Configator - http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40442 - to the same above directory, it will put a shortcut on your desktop. Run this before running the game (it explains all the options in the program but don't launch from there.)

Download and install FNVEdit - http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34703 - to the same above directory.

Download and install the FNVEdit manual - http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38413 - to learn, at least, how to MasterUpdate and MasterRestore your mods. (Make sure you read the description pages and Readme's of all your mods first because some mods won't work right MasterUpdated, very few, but they should state this)

Download and install BOSS - http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35999 - to the same above directory (I use the installer version rather than the Archive because I find it simpler, it will install a shortcut to your desktop. Run this to sort your load order.)

Download and install Better game performance - http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40128 - run it dead last in your load order.

If you decide to do this and need any help, just post back here. Hope it works for you too.

[Oh, you're not running too many mods, under 100 seems to be max. I run 92 currently with as little problem as FONV allows!]

Ok I changed my load order around and deactivated the Grenade Hotkey, definitely better, played for a couple hours with no crashes, but one just happened after I entered the Silver Rush and quickly left. Which one of these tools should I download? The one that tells me how to optimize my load order?

Edit: I installed everything and had it autosort my load order and made my graphics a bit cleaner. Though I cannot understand FNVedit theres just way too much info in that pdf file. I understand I need to "clean" my mods and see if there is anything conflicting but i dont even know where to start. Also the crashing is still happening so im guessing I need to do this whole FNVedit thing, hopefully that fixes it cause if not guess I just can't play

I did them all and my crash/hangs went away ( at least as 'away' as it ever gets with FONV. It may appear daunting but it's really quite easy, one step at a time.)

Yeah I'm trying but this FNVedit is kind of confusing, I have never really used anything like this before. Should cleaning my mods be what I'm doing or should I be trying to do something else? After reading further mod cleaning looks like something for modders themselves and not the users.

No, I wouldn't start cleaning mods just yet as many authors already do that now. What you want is page 23 of the manual - MasterUpdate and MasterRestore. Basically all you do is right click FNVEdit.exe, choose 'Copy', then choose 'Paste'. This creates a new file called "Copy of FNVEdit". Then you right click that, click "Rename" and rename it "MasterUpdate" (no quotes). Do it again but rename the second one "MasterRestore" (again, no quotes). Then just double click MasterUpdate and let it do it's thing and after it says it's finished close it down. When you bring FOMM back up you'll notice all your mods are now in Bold (just like .esm's). Then it's a tribal thing of turning archiveinvalidation off, close FOMM, reopen it and enable archiveinvalidation again, close FOMM and launch the game from your fnv4gb short cut.

It's worth it to take the time to study the manual in order to learn all the things that FNVEdit does.

Ok I just did the conflict fliter thing, literally 100% of my mods have a red background which counts as conflict it seems. The instuctions at this point are pretty vague they kinda assume I know how to make the chart popup but i cant seem to find anything, this is the part ive been stuck at for a while now Edited by dedaF

Ok I have done all reccomended steps, so far the crashing has become a little less frequent, but always seem to be while zoning or immediately after. Its nothing too game breaking but if anyone has any further advice I'd be glad to try it out. Thanks for the help thus far it has at least made the game playable again and for that you have my eternal gratitude.
