raverbane
My GF is reading over my shoulder and getting a real laugh outta this thread. *she looks over at her 4 year old beast boy climbing the door frame and screaching like an owl* She says there is no way she would be dragging a kid through the wastes. That is the fastest way to get them both eaten by deathclaws. She says drop the little rugrat off at the nearest wetnurse prostitute (ala Shoot'em Up) and be done with it. ita
A child companion would be fairly useless, they probably can't fire anything larger than a .22 pistol and their carrying capability is well below average.
Saraphiene
A child companion would be fairly useless, they probably can't fire anything larger than a .22 pistol and their carrying capability is well below average. Your partly right about this, yes their carrying capacity would be low, and yea I can see them being limited to the calibur of weapon at least as far as non energy weapons go since non energy weapons are based on explosive and force (lets not get into a detailed side subject on hos guns work), however energy weapons dont "necissarily" have a kick back allowing a child to wield some of them. Think of a stun gun and increase of lower the voltage, reguardless there is non kickback due to the lack of explosive force that there is in a gun. Beyond all that I think your onto something, instead of relying on a kid companion for damage and carrying capacity think of them as a support. The highlight of a child companion would be the perk bonuses you'd get and possible support roles they could play. One idea would be giving them a stun weapon or crowd control weapon, something support wise like a stun gun or possibly just a pair of binoculars and have them work as a spotter for a sniper. The potential for support is limitless and that in my opinion would be the highlight of a child companion. If you want another heavy hitter that obliterates the entire country-side get any other given adult companion, but if you want an enjoyable alternative, something that leaves you as the main hero. Then I think a child companion would be amazing, we could even go as far as teaching the child to be a field medic and heal using a stim gun... some new device that is technically a weapon but heals instead. Almost every single RPG game in the world has some form of healer, so we could take it one step that direction instead of stimpacks "the healing potion of Fallout" and apply a different tactical direction on it. Aside from all the support possibilities in the end the biggest benefit for a child companion would be the perks he/she comes with. bethjunkie
Aside from all the support possibilities in the end the biggest benefit for a child companion would be the perks he/she comes with. I assume there would also be a penalty to the player's Perception and Intelligence due to the constant distraction and lack of sleep that comes with being a parent? raverbane
As I watch my GF change a diaper. I would think you would need to have an aggro radius increase for animals. As they could smell you a mile away.

Or maybe you give them a laser rifle instead? Or just give them a small caliber automatic or maybe just a small shotgun. I mean, there are possibilities. nivea
On one hand sure it would be cute and kinda fun/interesting to have a child in the game, on the other hand those of us who have children or have dealt long term with young kids know there is no way you could really take a child out on a adventure like that... They need constant watching and not to mention they tire out on long treks very easily, you would have to simply stop and camp out the rest of the day or carry them and judging from the age the thread is going for I dont think a sling/carrier would be a real option. Your best bet would be to have the kid stay in a town/city while you went off to do whatever it is you had to do, and then really your not being a very good parent going off to explore the wastelands while leaving your child in the care of others. Maybe a 13 or up "child" would be fine in the wastelands but anything to much younger and your not being very realistic. This is why sadly women where forced to stay at home up until daycare was well established. NorthWolf
I posted on that thread. That'd be awesome, but my last experience with Blender/Nifskope was so horrible I wouldn't even consider learning. Reminds me of Mr. Toots, though!
