EvilDeadAsh34
I'm wondering if it would be OK to use the "alert ( ! )" sound from metal gear solid? I would like to use it as a sound replacer but i'm not sure if that would be allowed. I'm only confused because i've heard sounds from various movies and games in other mods before and even though i've read the rules before i'm still confused on that one. Clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. P.S. I asked this question in another group on accident so i moved it here so that it might actually get answered. Sorry. Glenstorm
Depends on the game, really. But if you are doing it for your own use (not publishing it anywhere), I doubt its gonna be a problem.

But if you are doing it for your own use (not publishing it anywhere), I doubt its gonna be a problem. Well, the sound is from Metal Gear Solid. The sound is the alert sound ( ! ) and if was allowable i would like to publish it but if it's not then i won't. I'm only asking because i noticed someone asked for a certain mod that used that sound and i wanted to make it for them or anyone that had the same idea. I tried it in my game personally and it's actually really cool to hear it. It fits perfectly. Edited July 29, 2011 by EvilDeadAsh34
ub3rman123
I doubt it. Unless the mods you mentioned specifically got permission from the devs (Such as in the case of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which allows reuse of models and textures), they shouldn't be uploaded and reuse of the sounds are considered 'ripping' on the site here. Quetzlsacatanango
Parody/satire is/was once considered fair use so I would say it depends on your use of it. You probably can't post it here in any case.

You probably can't post it here in any case. That's what i'm thinking is going to be the case but it's just a confusing topic to me because i've seen mods that have movie sounds and other game sounds in them that aren't from s.t.a.l.k.e.r.. So, i'll wait for an official reply but i'm not holding my breath that it will actually be allowed.
davidlallen
This question has been asked, and answered many times by the site mods. If you did not make the file yourself, and you do not have specific permission from the person/company who did make the file, you cannot post the file here. Other sites do not have such strict rules. So, when you look at mods stored on *other sites*, you may see violations of this rule. But, there are not ("should not be") any mods on this site which break this rule. I'm not doubting that. My question is that if is the case that you need permission from the original creator then how do movie sounds and other video game sounds (except stalker) get on here? Thats why i'm ultimately asking. I'm confused about the situation because there is definitely some sort of exceptions going on. BTW, i dont go to "other sites". Edit: I'm considering this an answered question. I have no interest in arguing about or getting banned over a tiny sound file. davidlallen
If you have specific examples of mods on this site which contain sounds from other non-FNV games, please give examples. The moderators would like to follow up to make sure there are no copyright infringements on this site.
