Sudieken
I bought Oblivion off of Steam this morning, so I don't really know about modding this game. Anyway, I downloaded a bunch of mods and tried installing them manually using the Planet Elder scrolls guide (which is basically copying each mod into the data folder located in the oblivion folder), and that did not work. I'm running Vista, so I disabled UAC. Still nothing. I then moved my entire Steam folder so it's directly on my C drive, as opposed to my program files. Still nothing. My friend said I might be doing the manual install wrong, and recommended that I use the Oblivion File Manager. I reinstalled Oblivion to get rid of the other mod files, and downloaded each one again. I used 7zip to extract them to their own folders on the Desktop, and loaded them with the "Create" button. I selected each folder from from my Desktop and immediately got an error message saying there are .esp files in a sub-directory or something like that, and it asked if I wanted to continue. I asked my friend about it, and she said to ignore that error and press continue, so I did. All of them activated fine, the launched detected them when I checked the data files, and I just launched the game, and STILL NOTHING. Ughh. I have no idea what to do. doubleclick123
About what your friend said, i don't recommend using the oblivion file Manager, but maybe you are installing it wrong... Read the "read me's"? And can you give a list of the mods you downloaded?
Sudieken
Thanks for the reply. The readme documents just say to unzip the files to the Oblivion directory. The mods I have are: Forbidden Armor Sethttp://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39626 Custom Race Fixhttp://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1815 Demon Lilith V3http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39242 Ren's Beauty Pack (Both addrace and hair)http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1011 Ainmhi Race Reworked (Also got the sound patch)http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38543
doubleclick123
Ok, two things, first of all, most of the items you downloaded have new textures and models, those usually have to be put in specific places... The second thing: When you say it doesn't work, do you mean the models dont appear... The mod makes no appearance whatsoever... Yellow exclimation marks... Or people missing body parts? Because if so you have to put those files in the proper places.... ... Or maybe you didn't enable them...
Sudieken
The options do appear in the character creation menu. The problem is the models don't load. For Ren's Beauty Pack, you can see the "Mystic Elf" option when you scroll through the races, but nothing will appear. The same goes for the hairstyles. However for the Ainmhi Race, the character shows up, but has missing parts, such as eyes and hair. What do you mean by "enable"? If you mean the data menu in the launcher, I've done that, and activated them with the mod manager.
nosisab
If installed in the default path (C:\Program Files (x86)\... ), well, uninstall it and install again at some user created directory, something like C:\Games should do the trick. PS: at least until something changes and newer games becomes "compatible" with that default path you should avoid installing any game there. This is specially true for games which uses plugins, mods and/or utilities. Edited July 30, 2011 by nosisab
Sudieken
Changing the install path was my first choice. Thing is, I purchased it with steam, so the best I could do was move the entire Steam directory from program files over to the C drive. So now it's: C:\Steam\steamapps\common\oblivion Would that work or does it have to be part of the Games folder?
doubleclick123
The only problem i can think of is you didnt install the models and "TEXTURES: correctly... Or are not in the right spot... Tell me where you put them? (part of games folder works best i think...)
Sudieken
I didn't manually place the textures in each folder. The exact directions listed in the guide were to open the file and Press Ctrl+C to copy the files (excluding the readme) and go to the data folder and press Ctrl+V to paste them, and merge folders when it asked. That was what I did the first time, and the second time I used the Mod Manager. I'm going to reinstall to C:\Games right now.
doubleclick123
Where there any files that had to be extracted to a non-existing folder? If so you have to make it... EX: Meshes\creatures\goblin\etc.
