Draakon
Having a lot of cores doesn't mean your processor will be better. What you need to look for when buying a CPU is the amount of L1, L2 and L3 (the 2 later ones being more important) cache memory amount, memory bandwidth (data transfer speeds between CPU and RAM, but your motherboard will be a factor in this as well), RAM support (what RAM it can support, like if it can support DDR2 only or even DDR3 as well as RAM speeds (usually called timings, which is marked as xxxx MHZ behind their names)) and additional technology support as well as CPU architecture itself (how the CPU has been built, where the caches are located on the die and stuff like that. Now, a quick lookup at newegg for aAMD Phenom II X6 and Intel i5-2500k says that your better off with AMD CPU, since it having much better memory bandwidth (due to HyperTransport, which is lacking in Intel CPU's). Protip: If you are very much interested in a new AMD Bulldozer CPU's as I am, buy a AM3+ motherboard as well, stick the Phenom in it for now and once the major bugs have been fixed and the prices dropped, buy the Bulldozer and just replace it with a Phenom. Iv000
That would be videocard, not processor. Processor relates to faster reaction times of NPCs, not how smooth the action is.I have a Sapphire 6870 1 Gb. It still falls from a steady 60 to a 35 when watching at a few NPC's. I mean in every town and everywhere.Engine maybe? Games like Witcher 2 are running on max settings at 40 FPS.
CommanderCrazy
I have an EVGA GTX460 FTW Edition and a PhenomII X6 1100T Black Edition and dont notice any slowdown when looking at NPC's.
