theosiris2010
Hi, I'm new to the forums and I had a crazy idea for a mod. I seen Mako Dusk, Mako Dawn for Oblivion and thought "... Oblivion wouldn't be good for that game besides magic.". So then this awesome-tastic idea came to my head for a Final Fantasy VII total conversion mod. Of course, I don't have modding skills at all, but maybe this idea can be taken over by somebody if they want to step up to ze plate lol I know that modding is hard and probably impossibly for this, but it's worth a try. Here's the ideas I have for this: Final Fantasy VII story: From start to finish. Cutscenes: For certain cutscenes like the Nibelheim one, make it transition like how the virtual town in Fallout 3 did. Except obviously you wouldn't have to hop into a machine. Weapons for party members: Find a new weapon that's for one of your allies specifically and equip them with it. Outfits: Have all the outfits unlockable from the original game and the story for all your companions. Ex: Cloud; His normal uniform, his Advent Children outfit, even the "Ms Cloud" outfit lmao. Same goes for party members. Keep it simple: To make the mod easy to make; only have healing items and money and other objects that are key to the game or for you or other party members. Ban weapons in towns so you can include children like Marlene into the game. Have it so weapons are only drawn when an enemy is nearby Vehicles: If vehicles are possible, then all of these must be;Buggy aka the shitbox car in Final Fantasy VII: Story-based like the rest.Submarine: Cool for getting around underwater.Chocobos: You know the drill. Conversation with them would be hilarious if vehicles are impossible. Replace with quick travel. If you know how a chocobo sounds, then you know what I mean.Highwind: Would be awesome to fly in the game.SPECIAL VEHICLE: Fenrir or Fehrir. The motorcycle from Advent Children. Have a different motorcycle for the scene where you escape Shinra. Either have it so you can use the vehicles, or quick travel and bring the vehicle with you if vehicles are impossible. Characters: Have all characters in the mod, as you go along in the game you can get them as companions. Let them all wait in one specific place as you go through the game and go either solo or with 2 other people. Red XIII: Replace Rex with Red XIII aka. Nanaki. Cait Sith: I don't know what you would replace something with a huge white happy blob and a scottish kitty with a megaphone. But it could be possible. Materia: Add-ons for weapons. Simple. All it does is change the effect given off of the weapon, and possibly projectile magic if possible? Healing could be simple as hitting your teammate with a cure materia equipped. The visual effect would be that you can see either the materia (in the holes on the buster sword) or have a glow of the color materias you've equipped. Make it so you either have to buy ammo for your magic, or it depleats health more that you use it. I dunno. Something unique to replace the fact that there is no MP in Fallout (Magic Points). Play as each character?: Start off from where Cloud picks them up in the game. Would be cool to be able to use everyone's weapons. Balance health and damage: Don't let us die too quickly. Quicker leveling tweaks like FF7 so it's possible to go to level 99. Perks: Remove perks or even keep them in, but make them character specific. WORLD MAP: If you ask me, even though I'm a modder, I think the world map would be easy to make. The only part that would get complex is the towns and stuff of course. Voice Acting: I would gladly contribute. Fixed Weapons for Cloud and party: Cloud's Buster Sword takes damage as seen in the movie Advent Children, thus replacing it with his new sword. Have it so your sword can't be repaired, but the condition goes down a bit (but gets stronger and doesn't break) throughout the game just for visuals. Let the damage on the sword be visible, tape it up laterrrrrrr in the game and stuff like that. I know people would be bored of using only one weapon all the time, so even if that's the case, include the rest of the weapons too. I'm just saying replace the Ultimate Weapon with the Advent Children sword or even keep it and just include that sword either way. If the buster sword only concept sticks, then it's good enough that you get magic as weapons and aid. Summons: I don't know how that would play out. Maybe just have them as throwing weapons? Let them be in the battle for like 20-30 seconds and f*** up the enemy for abit. Leveled summons would be cool. Have it unlimited if anything, but the more you use them, the more you lose health. Or just ammo that you can buy everywhere. When you get the summon, you get some ammo, but gotta buy it (durrr im stoned).Example: Weapon: Shiva Level1Ammo: Shiva Level1 Magic I have way more ideas, but I had to type this up quick. I can't find the notepad file I wrote it all down. If anyone's interested, maybe contribute ideas? The whole concept is to kinda bring more of the rpg out in fallout. GuerillaWarlord
I am also a huge fan of FFVII and would love to see this but this would take years of work on the current engine if it is even possible, so sorry to say but I don't think this could happen as recreating the whole world of FFVII would need thousands of meshes and textures, as well as the hours of scripting for some of the features you described so not really possible. but maybe we'll get lucky and square will actually release a remake of FFVII though thats probably not likely... nosisab
Not to mention Square Enix would be very pleased and flattered...
miranshortcake
If only we could create as quickly as we could imagine. Think of the mods that'd be out now.
theosiris2010
I think it could be possible if there were enough people that were willing to help towards the cause. I don't know much about modding, but if I was shown the proper tools, I'm sure I could help with stuff like character scripts (scripts as in their lines, not programming lol). Maybe even help redesign the map. I have some photoshop skills that I could contribute. http://www.ffotaku.com/images/final-fantasy-vii/worldmap.jpg I think it could be possible with teleporters to get from one island to another. Also, is there ANY total conversion mods out there that changes everything in the game?
Sunnie
The second a FF anything conversion went public, you can bet an attorney from Square-Enix will be sending off a bunch of registered letters to a few people. It might sound like a cool idea to do a total conversion, but legally, you're playing with unstable explosives.

Plus, square has been crap lately so there's no reason to respect their C&D requests.

Even uploading something with Fallout 3 resources into Fallout New Vegas is likely to get you a strike, or even a ban. True, it might not be a game that is actively produced and sold on the market, but it's still Square's game and if they tell us to stop, we have no "legal" choice, but to stop. It might be good promotion, but it's still their property and they have full control over it. It'd be sad for us to do all this work and have it shut down. :( Aside from that, we could make a Fallout Fantasy and then see where it would take us. XD The only people who could stop us then is Bethesda since we'd be using their stuff :P

I have been working in this industry for more than 25 years, and I can assure you that Square would have a conniption fit if their property were reproduced in another game engine without their authorization. You can not just dismiss their rights because they are not actively selling and/or supporting the property, that's just absurd. And just because you think Square is crap in your opinion, doesn't give you or anyone else the right to violate their copyrights. It's attitudes like this that keep attorneys in business. Javalin
I'm pretty sure something like this to get any kind of attorney involved, it would have to be exact conversion. Think of it like converting a jpg photo and making it into a png. It's only a simple file conversion, even though the image rights still belong to the person who took the photo. Recreating the ENTIRE game world itself is a completely different. Theres nothing about remaking something that has already been created. Everyone remembers the Morroblivion project for Oblivion. That was apparently scrapped due to copyright infringement.. As for the request at hand - I'm always up to see original addons/expansions/mods made for any game from Bethesda, because that's what makes them unique as a game developer - They give away their game creation tools for free with the game so people can modify it as and when they please (Which is why they've always sold extremely well on the PC compared to console) But as for reacting a game world without stepping through a portal, or sitting in VR sim machine like Tranquility Lane. Would be near impossible. Especially without pissing off the devs :P Excuse the French! :| Jav'
