Hmmm...maybe Sean Bean as Duncan...?

Yes, Sir Ian has done Gandalf, but he has the right voice and look.

And given that, if it was ever done, the scope of the movie would be absolutely huge (it would likely make the LOTR trilogy look tiny) I don't think you'd have a problem with A-listers taking smaller parts. ;)

Sean Bean is a good choice. Oh, wait, he gets killed, that's not fair. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/sad.gif He is killed in LOTR, he is killed in the Game of Thrones series, he dies too often lately on the big screen. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/facepalm.gif

One more candidate for Alistair (David Boreanaz):

It's difficult to decide, there are a lot of good candidates here. :)

Oh, definitely Helen Mirren as Wynne.

Although Chris Hemstreet has his charms as Alistair, so far I'm leaning in Scott Speedman's direction more (as far as looks, anyway). I do have a fondness for David Boreanaz, though . . .

And Evan Rachel Wood is spot on as far as looks for Lelianna. I know that she's played Sophie Ann LeClerq (the queen of the Louisiana vampires in the HBO Tru Blood series), but I don't know about her voice.

Pete Postlethwaite, who passed away in January, would have played a good Ulrich, although his voice was wonderful and not like Ulrich's smarmy voice.

Ok, I was thinking the plot should go something like this:

Origin would be a kind of combination between Human Noble and Mage.

The son of the Couslands, sent off to the Circle because he showed signs of Magic. Passed his Harrowing and then given leave to go home. While home, Howe and Duncan arrive the same way as the human noble origin and things play out from there.

Doing it like this introduces the audience to Templars, and the Circle of Magic. It also shows Howe up as the 'vile bastard' he is. It would also show off how much chaos the circle tower is in when you return.

So after the origin, he heads to Ostagar, speaks with the king, meet Alistair and then is sent to the wilds.

Meet Morrigan and Flemeth (DA2 style). Then back to Ostagar. He and Alistair get outfitted in DA2 style grey warden plate armor.

the battle plays out as a back and forth between what’s going on in the Tower of Ishal and what’s going on at the field.

Main character kills ogre, lights beacon. King Cailen and Duncan are killed by a different ogre. Then back to the tower for being overwhelmed and then waking up at Flemeth’s hut. Main character's armor is ruined from arrows. Flemeth outfits main character in Armor akin to wardens calling trailer.

Off to Lothering to get Sten (DA2 style, body paint, no horns, white dreads) and Leliana (SA armor) and to be convinced to see Arl Eamon first.

See loghain take over as regent and higher Zevran.

On the way to Redcliff, stop at Honnelith and pick up Shale. Set up camp and have a dream about the Archdemon.

Get to Redcliff to find zombies, save village and go to castle.

Go to the circle to get help with saving connor.

Sort out their troubles and recruit Wynne,

Save connor,

Go get ashes and get ambushed by Zevran on the way,

Save Eamon and find out Alistair is of Thearin blood. Alistair get a kingly suit of armor made (the one he is wearing when in Awakenings).

Then visit the dwarves and sort out their problem, Siding with Harromont plus recruiting Oghren.

Then to the dalish to kill the werewolves. find out Zathrian is to blame and get him to reverse the curse.

Back to Eamon for the Landsmeet.

Rescue Anora, get revenge on Howe, get captured.

Get rescued by Morrigan, Leliana and Wynne.

Convince Alistair and Anora to marry.

Execute Loghain at Landsmeet for treason.

Gather the army,

Darkspawn attack Redcliffe

Siege at Denerim

Kill Archdemon.

Become Hero of Fereldan

How does that sound?

Edit: Fixed some spelling issues

Very much yes on Sean Bean as Duncan. He dies well.

As for Alistair, heck..... I think that Val Kilmer could play (BE) Alistair anyway you want him. He has been a half-Souix FBI Agent and Jim Morrison (outstanding cuz I loved Morrison and Kilmer NAILED the role) . David Niven was always David Niven (in any role). Like wise for Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart and Frank Sinatra. Kilmer takes it to a different level.

In the same vein, Sophia Loren (the beautiful star of my pubescent dreams oh so long ago) is an ACTRESS.... (compare her persona in "A Boy on a Dolphin" with her very stark and real character in "Two Women"). Heck... who says that Morrigan can't have an Italian accent? She is in her 80s now..... but in her prime, she was the most beautiful woman about.

Speaking of accents,,,, Brigit Bardot as Leliana..... such a beauty!

Now.... where do we cast Johnny Depp?

Linda Hunt to provide the voice for Shale...?

Is she the Linda Hunt who played Billy Kawn Kwan (a male) in "A Year of Living Dangerously" or is she a different lady? (Fixed that for ya  )

As one wag put it, "She played a male, Asian, dwarf. Although she's none of those!"

BTW: First (and best) Mel Gibson movie I ever saw.

Ya know, he pulled off the pirate thing quite well.. how do you think he'd do as an elf assassin?

Also... how about Ron Pearlman as Sten?
