Character Creation/Starting Dungeon Low FPS?

I have downloaded several mods for performance fixes. I decided to even download oldblivion... I get 150+ in menus and loading screens I get 60-90 I even get 200+ at the start menu... but for some reason I get 10-15 FPS in the dungeon... I managed to make my character but it is so slow I can't imagine trying to get outside to see what its like out there. Any ideas what my issue might be? Tryed searching for fixes but most things aren't working. The issue isn't svchost.exe. Any help would be appreciated. I tried giving the most info I could just let me know if there may have been some more info needed to find the fix.

Thanks for reading,

A powerful general-purpose computer without a lot of mods and fairly high game settings can get about 28 FPS under most conditions. Frames per second is quite meaningless when the game is paused in one sort of menu or another. It sounds like your computer is operating as designed.

To get better performance, here are some things you can try:

(1) Turn your graphics settings way down.

(2) Perform system maintenance such as disc cleanup, scandisk, and defrag. Shut down background processes and disconnect from the Internet.

(3) Stop playing Oblivion and go play Morrowind.

(4) Stop playing Oblivion and go play Fallout 3.

(5) Stop playing Oblivion and go play Skyrim.

(6) Get a really expensive and powerful graphics card and power supply for your computer.

(7) Buy a really expensive and powerful gaming computer.

Sorry. I am afraid that what you are experiencing is quite typical. I really don't have any useful advice to give.

Maybe cleaning up this comp would help... It was once my bros laptop and it has 225 GB on it to hold and 137 GB were used when I first got on his laptop. Honestly I am going to be using this laptop for gaming and the internet... You said to shutdown background processes? Which ones should I not shut off? As I don't want to mess up the computer over a game... And I will disconnect from the internet and see what else I get after I defrag and clean up the computer a little bit... I may know some things about computers but my bro is the computer geek lol :) I would ask him if he wasn't always so busy. Also if this is typical I may just get rid of it. :/ As I don't plan on playing at 10-15 fps... I have Oblivion for the xbox so if this doesn't work so good I will just play it on there. But there are a lot more capabilities on the computer compared to the xbox... that's really the only reason I wanted to play it on the computer. I noticed that it seems the lights and the people are slowing down my fps any tips on getting more fps out of that? Edited by karatekidtwo2

Regularly cleaning and defragging is always a good idea, and will certainly help performance.

To safely shut down background processes, try Game Booster.

Light sources (especially where they overlap) and NPC's AI are always going to cause some lag.

There may be some things you can do to significantly boost performance, but we would need more info. Post your system specs, including operating system. Also, what performance mods have you tried?

Many gamers would advise that no one ever play Oblivion on a laptop. Desktops tend to have a lot more power and provide a more satisfactory experience.

Playing on the XBox might be a good option. Oblivion is a very large game and can provide hundreds of hours of play even without mods.

Lights and people are indeed some of the worst producers of lag. You will not want to use any mods that add lots of people to the game.
