mensch8maschine
Hi! Playing Oblivion for the first time, but since I am not new to the concept of mods I installed anything I thought might be cool before starting my first playthru. My Problem: right after leaving the imperial sewers (after watching the emperor die) the landscape is completely messed up. I'm Using Wrye Bash, BAIN, BOSS + Masterfile Some Mods that may be involved (ca. 165 in total): FCOM (MMM, OOO, Warcry, FrancescosUnique LandscapesQarls Texture RedimizedBetter CitiesNew Roads+BridgesNatural Environments Please help, I was SOO looking forward to finally playing this!!!! (purple hills really make enjoyment hard)...
Natterforme
You need the lastest version of OBSE for all of these big mods to work at all. Search for OBSE( or look under the top mods section) go to the link(silverlock) and download the most recent version. Also, if you have never played the game before you have no base line for what to expect/not expect. Try playing through the main story completely unmodded first. This will allow you to appreciate the game as it was first made. Also, you need run BOSS update, which will show you the conflicts.
mensch8maschine
Thanks for the fast reply! 1) I've got OBSE 0020 from TESnexus, as far as I can tell its the newest version. I use the OBSE Launcher to start Oblivion. is that correct? 2) Also, I just read that purple textures (as in my case) mean that a texture is MISSING!!! how can I find out which one? 3) Concerning BOSS, there is a small icon at the bottom of Wrye Bash. Whenever I un- / install a mod I press that immediately afterwards and get the BOSS Log in my browser. is that what you mean? 4) btw, I'm not sure whether I am getting the most recent masterfile, couldnt find any tutorial that explains the procedure... Natterforme
1. No problem! Yes, you want to use the OBSE launcher to start Oblivion. 2. Cant say which texture is missing, but I dont know how well FCOM plays with other mods. I think you should skip FCOM and just use the originals(OOO, MMM, etc) by themselves. Better Cities can be a hassle if not done right. Also, that many mods can have an effect on your game. If you have a medium level system, stick to under 200 mods unless you know what you are doing, which will come with time and more experience^^. 3. BOSS is in the Oblivion directory with its own folder(if you installed it with the exe.). The most recent version has a GUI and a new icon, faqs and some helpful readmes. 4. Dont worry about updating the master file. The new version of BOSS automatically checks for the most recent master file and downloads it if you do not already have it. This means you will never again have to download or check the masterfile yourself^^.
mensch8maschine
Remove FCOM? Oh dear, that probably means that I'll have to remove OOO, MMM, Francescos and WarCry and then choose ONE of them... 1) Which would you recommend? I really dont like the scaled levelling, and having some enemies that are just too tough until I level up sufficienlty is pretty cool too, as well as awesome loot thats available from the start, even if i cant use it yet.... :) 2) Can I actually run two or more at the same time? 3) Which adds the most monsters and loot? 4) this will probably mess up my current save, right? OOO and MMM will not conflict with eachother so you can use them at the same time. I know that FCOM is supposed to do some special things that will make it all work together but I havent tried. I do know that Warcry just got an update so you shouldnt have to install all of those pieces( I believe it has been condensed to 4 or so pieces as opposed to 29). I havent seen anything done in FCOM that isnt done better in Warcry. So short answer would be to use OOO, MMM, and Warcry(it just got an english translation too so that should help). 2. Yes you can use more than one. 3. OOO is a total overhaul, most notably for its throwing out of the scaled level system, which makes the game harder, but more rewarding. But it also adds a lot of other things that are less noticable but you would miss them if they were gone. MMM is specifically a monster mod, which will add a lot of new creatures and different varieties of the vanilla creatures. Defiantly a keeper^^. Ive only ever used Warcry once but it is very good and well thought out. I dont see why you cant have all three but I would stay away from FCOM if you are a first time modder. 4. You are defiantly going to want to start a new game after this. I cant guarantee that your character will not be invisible/cause a CTD.
mensch8maschine
AAARGH! I finally got arround to creating Bashed Patches and now Oblivion CTDs on every savegame load and new game >:((( Guess I'll have to reinstall everything, with 153 mods i dont see how i can find the defect. I wish this modding thing werent so enticing!!! i cant imagine playing oblivion vanilla now that i know what else is out there, and I really only want to play it once. 1) I was wondering, would it make sense to play Oblivion on XP 32 rather than Vista64? 2) concerning load orders: does the order in BAIN really matter if I have BOSS to sort my mods after installation? Natterforme
1. Vista? Ouch. 2. Throw up your load order if you want detailed and more informed responses please  .
