MShoap13
This could be a hardware issue. How hot is your hardware getting? The Graphics Card and the North Bridge would both be suspect here. Look into it, and if you need to get a Laptop cooler. Though modern graphics cards come with ridiculous thresholds often topping 100 degrees Celsius, generally speaking, the cooler the better, and staying under the 80 degree mark is optimal. Have you overclocked anything? If so try dropping it back down until it becomes stable. GPU-Z is great graphics monitoring software, and I'd recommend either The ATI Control Panel, or RivaTuner for custom fan settings etc. Also, RivaTuner has Derivatives built off of it that are more up-to-date so you may want to look into MSI AfterBurner if you go the RivaTuner Route. This could also be a driver issue. Are you running the most up-to-date drivers? Are they Beta or Certified drivers? Have you tried going back to an older driver version? I'll look into the other stuff U suggested later tomorrow tho I don't think they will do anything because heat/fan speed don't seem to be the issue here. BTW to add: I can run all other games with no issues like this:For exp: Battle Field 2 Bad Company 2, takes way more then Oblivion from what I know :P TY Edited August 12, 2011 by Zeeky97
MShoap13
Computer Hardware can heat up extremely fast, so you haven't ruled out heat as a possible issue. Get GPU-Z and find out what temperature range you're peaking at when it crashes. Also, Are you having issues with other games or applications or only Oblivion? And if the issues are only with Oblivion, do you run any other graphically demanding software/games? If it turns out you are experiencing crashes due to heat that's 10-20 degrees or more below your hardware's thermal threshold it can be a sign of faulty or damaged hardware. Edit: Google turns up lots and lots of results of people on Windows 7 complaining about BSOD with "atipmdag.sys" from the v10+ ATI Catalyst Drivers being shown as the culprit. You could try rolling back to the mid to early v9 Drivers. I would recommend downloading the old drivers, do a full uninstall and clean the registry (Revo Uninstaller works pretty well for me), reboot, then install the older drivers. Also, you could have some other background processes interrupting Oblivion for too long. This can certainly cause stability issues and is often found to be one background process/service on your machine interfering with Oblivion. Active virus protection, Windows Services, and anything you may have installed that runs silently in the background could all be suspect. I had old driver versions and had this issue and updated to try to fix it, had same issue. I already disabled all background programs threw Ms-config to try it out, same. sigh.... this is just getting more annoying as I go... Edit: Driver version of video card is 8.640.3.0, so apparently its not updated, tho updating video card is currently failing atm..Edit2: It is updated, but as a switchable graphic card driver, and since normal drivers won't install and the there are no other updated switch graphics card, its as updated as its going to be. MotoSxorpio
Do you have an integrated onboard GFX chip as well as the card? if so, try disable the onboard thru BIOS.
luxwing0go
Have you tried running the SFC /SCANNOW command to see if there are hardware issues that need to be updated? An error like that usually happens when either something needs to be updated or an update was misplaced or corrupted. Apparently there is also a hotfix for this from windows:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983615
