So, I've been using this Nexus for a while now.

I'm beginning to get used to it, my only complains would be this BIG ORANGE BARS, would it be possible for those to be thiner? The "Tracked files" and "Endorsement" features would need to be improved too...

I hate the new site as it currently is. The latest files widget shows only 5 files and checking the full list I can't tell if the files listed are for Morrowind or Oblivion or what. Even after clicking on the file I now need to read the description if it even has one to figure out what game the download is for.

We can only hope that this is a temporary change and that a new and decent version will be uploaded in the near future.

Things I don't like and would change:

The white on bright. Sure, it's less bright than it was, but it's still way too bright. I'd make the orange bars thinner and use them as the dividers. The white text I'd place on a dark field immediately below the orange bars.

This site cuts off or deforms every single picture that doesn't conform to the "ideal" ratios. I'm sorry, that's just bad. A lot of the images now look downright dreadful. I'd throw that whole aspect out. I'd make it so the images shrink to match either the height or width, but not both. I'd also put the latest images back on the front page. That was one of the big reasons I often visit the site, to see what new images have been put up. Why was that even taken away? On top of that, why do I have to mouse over an image to see it's title? And why were the subtitles removed?

I'd give the site back it's adjustable width. There's absolutely no excuse for there to be this much wasted space on a wide screen monitor.

Browsing mods is a bit painful, now. People talk a lot about how terrible the default Oblivion UI was, where you could only see five or six items at a time. The new Nexus layout is even worse. I can only see three at time, so I'm having to scroll up and down a lot more. There's no excuse for that, either.

I'd also ditch the drop down menus. Sure, they remove clutter and look sleek, but they're also a pain to use. It was much nicer when they were sitting right on the side of the screen. They were easy to see and easy to access.

Addendum:

Why is that that when I want to view an image's title, not only do I have to mouse over the image, but the title appears over the image, along with the lined or pixelated overlay, further obscuring an already deformed and blurry image?

Addendum 2:

When I pull up a window, like to look at the Action Log or to edit this post, the "X" for closing the window looks like an afterthought, not an incorporated design element.

I have one thing that misses me (and maybe another) : there aren't legends for the "today files" and "recently files" anymore.

Can you put them back ?

Hei,

I miss the possibility to see in an easy way if a mod is for Morrowind or Oblivion (you could see it before at the top line showing in which category the file was at home).

I don't miss the whole category tree but I would appreciate a hint if the mod is for Morrowind / Oblivion! It is not common to set this into the description at the top...

I have been loving and using the Tesnexus site since 2006 and I am grateful for all the hard work that is always done for improving the site. I welcome changes but I must say I did like the old design better because it had more "soul". With time I am sure everything will work out just fine with the new design and I will adapt.

What I like about the new design.

It is easier to browse the pictures

-What I don't like about the new design:

-The big orange lines.

-White text on orange makes it hard for me to read.

-Rounded orange boxes in the upper picture with white text on orange, would look better with square or even better to move it as I have done in my example picture.

-Everything cramped together in a small column in the middle with lots of spaces besides.

-To narrow column when writing/reading comments.

Here is my example of what changes could be made.

-Black/dark grey text on orange instead of white.

-Smaller orange lines.

-Take away the round dropdown boxes, change them to text and move it down.

Pictures are taken from latest Opera browser, the orange boxes are not aligned.

I really have no idea why so many people are worried about the unused space left and right. My solution took 2 seconds : Press 'crtl and +' two or tree times and now it looks like this:

No unused space at all, so where is the problem?

I'm not sure if you act stupid on purpose or not, but I still choose to answer you seriously. The wasted space is of course not a problem in itself. The problem is all the info we had there that is now gone elsewhere, making you completely lose any overview over files, or having to look in menus for things that were onscreen earlier.

So with fixed-width, we trade away overview and ease of use to get a lot of wasted space and a lot of scrolling. Now please explain why the problem goes away by instead trading away overview and ease of use to get overly large text and even more scrolling, as you suggest <img src='http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
