madgamer
I have been playing RPG games ever sense Wizardry 1 came out for the Apple 2 so you know I am not saying the following out of being a total new player or someone who does not enjoy being evil or bad. I am up to the point of going to the fringe to stop the forces of order but for the first time that I can remember I am not enjoying the shivering Isles add on. I do not think I am some goodie two shoes type but I just keep wanting to root for the forces of order. Some time ago I read a post on the elder scrolls 4 forum from a player who stopped playing Shivering Isles because he felt uncomfortable......I think that is what has happened to me because i don't enjoy what I am asked to do and my heart really isn't in the spirit of the game so to speak. It is odd because in all the years I have played RPG games this is the fires time I ever felt this way. The DB or the thiefguild did not bother me so I am not sure why I have totally become disinterested in finishing what I think is a great expansion game but not for me. I was wondering if I am the only person who reacted to Shivering Isles this way. Madgamer
Dullahan
I returned by copy due to moralistic reasons. (Gods..let the laughter commence, but i didn't want to kill an innocent.)
Rhydderch Hael
Funny. With all your professed experience in RPGs, you should very well know how to separate yourself from the persona in-game. My first Oblivion character was a male Breton white-hat type, a heavily-armored spellcaster who lived and fought with open-handeness and honor. He loved saving the day and shied away from stealing or murdering. When I put him through the Dark Brotherhood questline (simply because it was the last thing I had not yet done) I quit soon thereafter because the things he was saying (and doing) did not fit with the character. In order to finish the DB storyline, I created a brand-new character, but more than that, a brand-new persona: sneaky, murderous, a total ditz when it comes to magic, and slightly insane. This kid will never be a Knight of the Nine, but the Dark Brotherhood is a natural cinch. Trick is, these are two diametrically-opposed, yet I have played both. You shouldn't make the character based on you, but rather you should adjust yourself into the role of the character.
Cynster
I really liked the Shivering Isles. Killing an innocent? How about the DB where you had to kill off an entire family? Ouch! xD My character never really has a persona... she just wants what I want: What happens next? I suppose it's the way I play. I just want to see what happens in the game. If it means I have to explode a heart or two, well that's kind of interesting because you don't get to do it often! And you don't have to. Your character could always decide to leave that wretched isle or quest and take no part in it. There are plenty of options in TES. :
arcturus62
I agree totally with cynster, it's a game and I'll do anything I need to to experience the game. That's the whole point, to be able to do things you couldn't or wouldn't do in real life.
dangle
same here, just play as more than one character. that is something i really enjoyed in morrowind (the great houses being exclusive), they required replaying with different characters which then got you playing the game again but in a totally differnt way. good times
Dullahan
I did like the game, but i also returned it because it was not compatible with OOO. Lol. Besides, I've no time to play it anyway. And i was in the DB, however i used a code to resurrect the victims. :P
CoolCat6
That mages guild quest where you have to get a book from the count of Skingrad really pissed me off because I had no choice but to tell Raminus Polus that the count "saved me" from the necromancers, when all he really did was come into the near-ending battle unarmed and got two punches in before I was victorious.
