jordanLoL
Really your best bet is GT5 and Forza. Dirt 2 and 3 are good games but only have all terrain related racing. The only PC games mentionable are NFS Shift and Shift 2 even with their questionable driving model. However, you do get a lot of the customization aspects as you get in GT. As much as I adore the GT series and played GT3 and 4 myself on the PS2, GT5 was a complete flop and disappointment for me. I would honestly just save up to get an Xbox and wait for Forza 4 to release.

Duh that track is a monster especially the 24h and type v. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kYwK9wkTpg gt5 is the only game that rendered the entire track. That's actualy incorrect Thor. I know you're wildly passionate about GT5, but there's actualy quite na few other games with the full Nurburgring layout featured, such as Project Gotham. And the whole "behemoth" track is relatively new, the "true" Nurburgring is the shorter version seen in many games, the GP-Strecke was added many, many, many years after the original construction to great criticism and dislike among fans and drivers. While many criticised the larger track for being too dangerous, the calls reversed after they say the GPStrecke, which was immediately criticised for being over-simplified and without character. The Nordschliefe (Nurburger-Ring) was created in 1926, the GP Strecke in the 1980s. Frankly Illiad, if you like Top Gear I think you'll really like Forza, it's a very sim game, but it's more relaxed than GT. And while I know Thor will probably defend GT-5 to the death, I agree with Jordan here. GT-5 is just... I don't know, it's missing something important, fundamental. It's like the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, it's on face value a great track, and it's numericaly perfect, but it's lacking something compared to say, Spa or Laguna Seca, it's lacking soul. Forza I'd also recomend because the controls are pretty much spot on, unlike PS games the Xbox 360 controller has triggers for accelrate/break, and you can adjust your trottle/break with trigger pressure, making it much easier to drift and feather the throttle as opposed to the Dualshock. Graphics aren't quite up to bat with GT-5 or it's other rivals but are still very pretty, and the emphasis on glamour cars and real racing series' makes it very rewarding from early on-you don't need to spent 48 hours of gameplay doing Tutorials here, let alone another 80 grinding away through an endless parade of puny used Japanese microcars, here you actualy get paid enough to afford the good stuff, and it's more a matter of choosing your progression than desperate grinding. You can just relax enjoy it so much more. There's also an emphasis on collecting cars, with a lot of "out of reach" cars you do have to grind for, including the holy grail Ford GT-40 1966, at 21,000,000.00 credits. It's AI is also a quantum leap smarter usualy, while it does have some lampshade-on-head-idiotic moments(I saw one AI start in reverse once in #2) it's mostly quite smart, and unlike GT's AI it seems to realise your there. If you're ahead of it, it won't try to drive through you, but instead calculate your position and then wait till you leave an opening for it to make a move. It rarely does stupid stuff, but it is capable of feeling pressure-continue to keep trying to pull moves on it and sometimes it will make mistakes, likewise if it's right behind you on the last lap, it'll go absolutely mad to try and pass, sometimes going so crazy late on the brakes as to come off the track. There's also a much larger lineup of glamour cars, there's only about 500 ish cars here, but they're either glamour cars like Vipers and Mclarens, race cars like GT3-RSR's and Le Mans cars, or cool small cars, like Imprezas and Skylines. The slowest car in the game is the VW Rabbit, and even it has a claim to fame, as you can put a monster engine in it and give it going on 1000 BHP. Frankly with the Xbox' price so much lower than the PS I really think you may aswell get one and wait for Forza 4 later in the year, it just sounds so much more like what you're saying you're looking for. Thor.
Humm GP is in the game to, in fact all variants are. Also i agree the AI is stupid, but the online community is where its at, especially when you have 16+ players on track. Nurb can get crowded. Not to mention its allot more robust online, damage and high restrictions. You should atleast be a a little less biased against gt5, i had Forza 3 and i liked it until my inferior 360 self destructed.http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/verymad.gif proof it is. not coming from me but the devs themselves. http://www.qj.net/ps...ing-for-it.html Also the gt40 wasn't the fastest, the LM version o6 was better in every way, unless your talking about the 2j Chapperalhttp://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/laugh.gif Now that's a car, banned in several events, fastest car of its time. http://www.influx.co.uk/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/Chapparal.jpg Edited September 6, 2011 by Thor. Vindekarr
That's beside the point, and Im not here to try and disuade you from liking GT5, I've tried that before and I know it doesn't work. First I think you misunderstood me about the GT-40, it's NOT the fastest, but it is the collector's holy grail, those things are ludicrously expensive relative to performance, but they're just beautiful enough to be worth it. Fastest car I have is a Modified Reventon that does more than 425 km/h. Im not here to discuss GT-5 vs Forza, Im just trying to help Illiad find what they're after, and that's seemingly Forza 4. I know you like GT 5 Thor, you've made that point quite well, you don't need to keep spruiking it to me, it's not something I'm going to go out and buy after my PS-3 self destructed. Mkay? resistance is futile against my wall of pure flexibility. I will agree that Shift was a little lulwut though, but did you ever play ProStreet? that was a bad racer... If you ever got air, and your car had a racing tuned suspension package, it would bounce like a tennis ball down the road on it's springs in a very comical but hugely frustrating way. Even funnier way getting one side off the grund the stopping, the car would just sit there, bouncing on the spot for minutes like some sort of "low-rider". And you could total your car by hitting street cones. Split Second was even worse, whenever you touch the steering your car loses about 15 KM/H every tenth of a second, and can even come to a stop on a long enough corner, but AIs can steer without losing any speed. It's hideously unbalanced, and they don't seem to need to brake, and when they reach a corner, you get slowed down massively by the simply act of steering while they hurtle past unhindered, without even braking. What's worse is that if an AI escapes at the front, it get's a speed boost, usualy becoming completely uncatchable as it's able to slip ou of the normal code and race without hitting obstacles. The 2-J's probably the ugliest race car of it's era too Thor, me, I like my Ground Effects era cars the best. http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee454/Vindekarr/800px-Takuma_Sato_demonstrating_Lotus_78_2010_Japan.jpg Not the fastest, but certainly fast, and very pretty. Thor.
Hmm Thats a Lambo right, thats not the fastest one, the Farrari Atalia can out run it any day. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/ferrarif430italia_lead.jpg PLEASE get Gran Turismo 5, if youy add me i could show you some tricks of the trade xd. 320km without after market parts. Turbo etc. Or the Veyron witch is Uglyy though can go over 400km stock. Edited September 6, 2011 by Thor.
Vindekarr
That's also incorrect, a Reventon has more power, better aero, and is quicker off the mark than the 458 I. Top speed lies around 338 KM/h for the roadster version. Mine also has the boon of twin-turbo, and nearly 1200 HP, it can reach a grand speed of 433 KM/H over the Mulsanne straight, and frankly I have no idea how fast it would go if I really let it loose on a properly long track. 430 is simply limited by running out of road. And no, it doesn't handle very well at all. Edited September 6, 2011 by Vindekarr

Illiad86
Yeah, sounds like Forza 4 or GT5 for me. Guess I'll wait until they drop the price of either console to around $100...we really don't want to spend big bucks on one...figuring that will be the only game we will buy for it...and we don't have a TV :P (guess you could hook it up to a monitor with HDMI?). We're not big console fans anymore and that's quite a bit of money to drop at normal prices. Thanks for all you responses, though :D Edited September 6, 2011 by Illiad86
