Cant close oblivion gates?

I have read about this problem, but never found a solution...thus the annoyance when I experienced it. When I went to the gate, and made my way inside, I got to the top to get the stone. Once activated, I got the stone and the fire animation and all the pretty light shows took place, but the player transfer script didnt activate. It acted as if the deed was done, but I remained in the tower, with no quest update. It was working fine before, I tried resetting all my recent mods, but nothing worked.

Use the console code "CloseCurrentOblivionGate"

 

 

 

 

That seems almost too easy...Inside, or outside? Do you have any idea what could be causing it? I really dont like using console cheats.

Yes, it is really that easy. Only downside I have found so far is that you get no sigil stone (but since you have already picked it up, it shouldn't be any problem for you), or any other loot inside that you havn't picked up. You can use it whenever you have entered an oblivion gate (so, "inside" it is).

 

Unfortunately I have no idea what's causing it. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable on the subject can help you fix it without using the console.

If you are lucky, it might just have been that particular oblivion gate.

This is a known bug for some people -- I've never come across it -- where the sigil stone cannot be removed. The downside to closing the gate with the console is that you don't get the stone and you don't get the fame or gates closed increase. Note that if you are continually running into this bug, then something is probably wrong with either your setup, or in your saved game. If it's only an occasional hiccup, use the console to close the gate and to give you your point of fame. If you are desperate for the stone, you can also look up their IDs and add one too. So, use:

 

closecurrentobliviongate

modpcfame 1

modpcmiscstat 13 1

IIRC its caused by loading a save within the gate realm without exiting to desktop first.

 

seem to recall this was an issue once attempted in the unofficial patch, but was determined to be an engine issue that couldn't be dealt with by a mod.

IIRC it was due to dying inside an Oblivion realm and then loading a save game from outside the gate without exiting first --- the variable that tracks if the player is in Tamriel or OblivionWorld would not get updated properly so the game would then think the player was in Tamriel instead of inside the oblivion world so when the gate closes they would not get teleported to tamriel since the variable was already showing they were there.

 

I think the fix was to either use the SI portal so the variable would reset or to use the console to teleport back into Tamriel (COC AleswellInn or similar) then go back to the gate locaton and use the closecurrentobliviongate cheat to close the gate.

Bug: Picking up the Sigil Stone in an Oblivion plane doesn't do what it's supposed to: the player stays put, the area fills with white fog, and the gate doesn't close.

Solution: For some unknown reason the Oblivion plane you're in loses its hook to the gate in Tamriel you used, best solution is if you are afflicted with this bug is to open your console and type in coc AnvilBay you'll end up in Anvil's bay. Also, this bug may be avoidable if you never reload while inside Oblivion planes and then go back into the same gate repeatedly. If you have to reload while in an Oblivion gate quit the game entirely and restart it to ensure that memory is properly flushed out.

The main thing about using the console, is it is the first gate...Its the Kvatch gate. So, using to console to force it closed, may not trigger the event that triggers the next step of the quest. I figured taking the stone would do that anyway...But I havent been able to play since the first reply, Ill do ahead and do that now. Also, my game has been crashing a little bate lately...might be from the same issue?
