I have recently installed BOSS and Wrye Bash, and after doing so, my game will not start up properly. I have tried uninstallng and reinstalling, but it really doesn't like me.

Is likely to not help you in this special case but nonetheless I would recommend using this OBSE-plugin:

Else I second the advise given from Caithe.

 

 

Edit: Oh almost forgot. Try changing the load order of your Mods (using OBMM or Wrye Bash). That at least helped me, when I encountered on-start-up-CTDs. If that doesn't help you, then you should deactivate every Mod you last installed and try activating one after the other to see which one is responsible.

 

Don't think Wrye Bash or BOSS are responsible (besides, you even told that the crashes persisted after uninstalling them).

Combining SI & KOTN seems strange as SI is a true patch that actually makes changes to the Oblivion.exe file and cannot be removed once installed while the KOTN DLC is a mod that can easily be added and removed separately. It doesn't make any permanent changes when it is installed.

 

In the normal game, SI installs a dummy esp (ShiveringIsles.esp) that is nothing but a placeholder that can be checked or unchecked to allow SI in the game or not (It has no content) plus a set of bsa files that hold all of the new meshes, Textures, sounds etc. While Knights of the Nine (Knights.esp) installs with a real esp plus it's own bsa file. (Knights.bsa)

 

I would be surprised if the 5th anaversery version doesn't allow disabling SI - ShiveringIsles.esp is required for this. Are you sure that Wrye Bash hasn't ghosted the ShiveringIsles.esp? Or that you haven't removed it?

Try placing your own dummy ShiveringIsles.esp in the data folder and see if it doesn't show on the data list to allow or not allow SI to show in game.

Actually Shivering Isles cannot be disabled once installed, for it makes changes to Oblivion.exe and Oblivion.esm(the plugin is a dummy for loading BSA files, so even if you deactivate it, 'Strange Door' will still appear on quest journal).

I just tested this this - I disabled SI. As stated by LFact, the quest still showed in the log. The map marker showed when I looked at the map. When I fast traveled to a place where the island can normally be seen from shore. The island did not show (No LOD) When I swam across, it suddenly appeared but the entire land mass of the island was the flat pink of no texture, and many objects showed the WTF missing mesh star. The NPCs near the gate did not have the SI audio but did have the Oblivion audio. I was unable to enter the gate. I believe this indicates that the SI bsa files were not being used.

 

Quit and re-enabled SI. From the same save traveled to the same place - now I could see the island from shore (Normal LOD) when I swam over to it, it was normal and no missing mesh or textures were shown. The guard and other NPCs had the proper SI audio and I could enter the gate.

 

As I tried to say in my earlier post SI is a true patch and cannot be removed once installed. However, KOTN even though it is a DLC is a normal mod and can be removed. I am not sure why the 5th anniversary edition would change this. Unless it was to stop the condition I encountered - no SI textures or meshes when ShiveringIsles.esp is unchecked.

 

My mistake was in not realizing that the island would actually appear when the esp was unchecked - Thanks for the correction LFact. :thumbsup:

I was messing with my load order once and had the Shivering Isles .esp unchecked. It prevented the island from appearing. After activating the .esp and waiting about five days, I still couldn't get the island to appear. I finally ended up using a console code.
