Lord J
So far I've been scouring the internet for information as to whether Skyrim is region-locked or not. Unless you've been living under a rock, internet stores are much cheaper than retail stores, even though you're getting the same product. I'm keen to buy a physical copy of Skyrim from Amazon as it's much cheaper than pre-ordering from EB games or JB-Hi Fi. My concern is that because I live in Australia, that if I pre-order from Amazon that a region-locked game would prevent me from playing (and thus be a complete waste of money.) From what I can gather, region locking seems a bit stupid given that every copy must be registered on Steam, preventing any chance of resale anyway. HOWEVER, I realise that lately game companies have been doing silly things by adding countless security measures to prevent piracy. Any information on this topic or any solution would be greatly appreciated as I'm super keen for Skyrim and would hate to miss out because I was misinformed! EDIT: I should point out, that I don't want to download the game from Steam! My internet wouldn't be able to cope! Thanks! Iv000
You have a problem, Steam will automatically start downloading patches (Unless you tell him not to, which is not recommended for a game like Skyrim), and since you already said that your connection is bad, it would take a long time to download these patches.I have no idea what this region locking is all about or how it functions. So I can't give any answer to that.
SHIROryuu
Japan has NTSC-J, North America has NTSC-U/C, Europe and Oceanic have PAL and PAL/E, China has NTSC-C. These are all the region codes. Australia is in the PAL region. Just figure out if it's PAL or PAL/E. Then you know which version to get. I made a mistake like this when I ordered GTA4 for xbox 360. Got the Pal version and was screwed out of playing it as I had NTSC-U(Living in Canada). I still have it unopened in fact lol. Pal is mostly because of the framerate. They use a different framerate as well as power supply, if I remember correctly standard is 220v vs the NA standard of 110v. Revoran
Don't buy from Amazon. Buy from http://www.ozgameshop.com They are a UK based store that only sells to Australia and New Zealand. They have Skyrim for around $40 for PC and $60 for consoles. They also have free shipping, although it takes a while to get here (2 weeks or so). Because the UK has the same game-region as us (PAL) any games from these guys will work in Australian consoles etc. I can personally vouch for these guys as I have bought Reach, Super Mario Bros. Wii, Civilization V and some other games from them before.

Australia is the deadzone when it comes to fast internet. With over 8 computers in our household connected to the internet, I can't afford to download a 10+ gig game. Not only that, it takes A LONG TIME to download such large files. Steam doesn't download games fast anyway. So no, I'm quite content with my internet connection! Thanks for the replies guys. I particularly found SHIRO's comment regarding the different "zones" of the world helpful for future reference. Who knew I'd get such a quick reply! Lord J
I probably should've clarified; I'm after the PC version. Does PAL and NTSC etc. apply for PC games? So far from what I've read, it's a console thing.
