i heard about Skyrim coming out (11/11/11) and not too sure if im gonna like it so thought i should try Oblivion first before spending $100+ on the game and to also see how its gonna run on my computer.

so i downloaded oblivion, installed with no problem, start it up, the game tells me its not able to recoqnize my video card so the setting is set to medium, started the game, clicked new game and the game just freeze there on the main menu, no loading screen, no error popups, cant click on anything, had to close it through task manager..

im very noob at computer but these r solutions ive tried:

- load a save (downloaded)

- running as admin

- disabling user account control

- disabling firewall

- setting compatibility to xp sp2

- installing as admin

- uninstall + removing remaining folder and reinstall

- uninstall + removing remaining folder and reinstall + oldblivion

- uninstall + removing remaining folder and reinstall + patch 1.1.5

- uninstall + removing remaining folder and reinstall + oldblivion + patch 1.1.5

- uninstall + removing remaining folder and reinstall + patch 1.1.5 + oldblivion

my comp is Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows Vista Home Premium, 4 gb RAM and ATI mobility Radeon HD 4300 series video card.

i find this a bit odd since i can run Fallout new vegas with no problem at all and Oblivion is much older game, if i cant even run Oblivion i dont think ill be buying Skyrim..

FONV and Oblivion use the same engine, so if you can run one, you should in theory be able to run the other without problems. Skyrim will use a completely different engine so how it will run can't really be deduced from how Oblivion runs. Based on the minimum and recommended requirements though, expect it to be much more demanding on hardware than Oblivion or FONV.

AFAIK, the Steam and D2D editions should auto-install, be patched to the latest version and should work straight away. I'm not suggesting anything, but if it was downloaded illegally, please be warned that known software pirates are instantly banned from this site.
