Goliath978
Every time I hear the theme music for oblivion my heart shrinks. Once upon a time I had modded oblivion to greatness. I had the best mods and after days of struggling with tech I got some amazing graphics on it. Better than Crysis 2. But then came along a very stupid mod by a very stupid person that ruined it all(Cyrodiil snow mod 1.4)Oblivion was destroyed. Nothing in the instructions/readme/description/anything told me what was to become of my game. So I tried desperately to get the textures of default Oblivion back, but alas whenever I neared a city it would crash! Better Cities and OBGE no longer worked when I reinstalled and patched the game...everything...is destroyed. To make it worse a 3rd person camera mod ruined my .ini and I can't get the regular camera back. So now I'm faced with two heartbreaking tasks:-restart. Delete everything related to Oblivion on my PC(except mods that I have in my download folder). Reinstall. Remod the entire thing. But I forget how to get all those pain in the (other word of donkey) mods to work! It will take at least a month.-forget. Try to forget the lush green landscapes, the beautiful sun glaring against the walls of the cities, the land that was Cyrodiil. Can anyone help this miserable sole? WarRatsG
Cheer up, its just only a month and a half until Skyrim :) Delete everything and find another, non-elder scrolls game in the mean time. Then when you get Skyrim it will be so much better, and when you see cyrodiil in the distance you will get a faint nostalgia as you remember all the fun times you had, rather than remembering how sh** it was after you lost all your mods. SavageArtistry
It does no good to insult the modders. You could have made a backup of your working Data directory but didn't. Now that I've said that, there are ways to deal with the problems. First thing you need to do is locate the mod that you blame for your troubles. Yes, that means download it again if needed. Open the .zip/.7z/whatever format it's in and check to see exactly what the mod added to your game. Go into your Data directory and DELETE all of the corresponding files. Next, reinstall the mods that you liked. You mention texture issues, so reinstall all of the ones that were working for you. Let everything overwrite. You mentioned a problem with your .ini file. Copy it out of your My Documents\Oblivion folder to someplace else, like your desktop. Now DELETE the one from the My Documents\Oblivion folder so that Oblivion can generate a new one next time you start it up. You can use Notepad to inspect the old, messed up copy you saved to your desktop to see if there are any settings you'd like to copy over to the new .ini file. Once your game is cooperating again, back up that Data directory! Edit to add: I see you mentioned you reinstalled. Check BBen's uninstall guide to make sure you got all the settings and artifacts removed from your installation. Make sure you're not putting an old messed up Data directory back in or things will just mess up again. That's why it's always good to make a backup to your unmodified directory just in case there's a problem.
