Elsarian
Meaning, will I have to go out and buy the game, put in the disk just to have it install nothing but steam, and then tell me to download the game through steam? Will Skyrim be Steam and Steam only just like New Vegas is? Or will Skyrim be using Steam as a basic DRM by making you sign in with an account, type in some codes on the inside of the box, and then the game installs? Like most others? I ask all of this because I do not have a dedicated internet connection. I connect to the internet via tethering my iPhone with my computer and so on. I would not have a problem at all if I had an unlimited data plan, but I don't, so therefore can not download this game unless I take my whole entire rig to another person's house with High Speed, set up, and so on. Does anyone know of any specifics about Skyrim using Steam? I just have to know. I can not imagine what it will do to people that have dial-up, or worse, no connection at all, or they are in my position. I just hope Bethesda doesn't do what Obsidian did with New Vegas. Thanks to everyone and sorry about this rant. Steam is a good and awesome service for those that have fast, dedicated internet connections. But, destroys those who do not. Thanks to everyone in advance. -Elsarian

Sometimes steam will mess up but I assure you the game will be on the disk .. will it ask you to download the game? .. maybe .. this seems to be a glitch people run into but I'm sure their is a way around it .. Ive never had the problem except with valve games so I can't say how to fix it if it does happen.

If it starts downloading through steam cancel it, delete local content for the game, close steam, and use the 'setup.exe' on the disk.
Elsarian
That is exactly what I did. It pulled up the install launcher, clicked install, and all that was installed was steam. Then I was prompted by the install wizard to go onto steam and start the game download. You mean to tell me that both of you installed New Vegas without downloading the game at alll? Yep, try going into Offline mode. Make sure steam is closed when you install from the disk, setup will boot steam when it needs to.If there is a release day patch you have to download that but not the whole game. Elsarian
Well New Vegas has already been installed for me because I thought that it can only be downloaded. I was never given the option to install with just the disk. Strange.

I was never given the option to install with just the disk. Strange. It won't give you an option in a form of 'download or disk', it's down to the points I've mentioned above. I've had some games try and do that (downloading) and doing those things worked for me.If it still plays up I'd say just reboot and disconnect the internet until you need it. scot
New vegas installed from the disk for me, before I bought it I downloaded steam from steam site and got everything ready so I could just insert the disk and press install, the only download was the update. If it downloads skyrim even with the disk I swear I´ll go to the store and just ask my money back, doesn´t make sense spending 50 euros on a disk just to install steam -.-I never had any problem with steam for now, new vegas works great with all the mods I use and all DLC work great apart lonesome road that conflicts with NVSE for me but that´s not steam problem, I still wis skyrim could be non-steam I don´t like buying a disk and attach the game to my steam account forever, I wonder in like 30 years if I want to install my skyrim disk again and don´t remember my steam account what shall I do.I prefer the way oblivion and fallout 3 goes, installing anytime whenever I want.
