Fallout 3 New Game Crash

Hi there I downloaded Fallout 3 a while ago.Whenever I tried to start a new game it would play the intro, and then it would crash.Recently I've been trying to fix this problem because I found out that Oblivion works on my laptop, so I was hoping to fix the problem and get mods.I've tried the d3d9.dll file, running the game on windows xp compatibly, editing some stuff from the fallout_default.ini (don't worry I backed it up) and patching it.I have no idea what to do.I don't think it's my drivers fault because I recently updated them to make Oblivion work.I'm on windows 7 by the way, I've heard that windows 7 isn't really compatible with Fallout 3.Please help I need some expert advice and don't tell me to get it on consoles, because I've beat it on PS3 but I want it on PC for the mods.My computer specs are under.

System Specs

Processor: Intel Core i3 CPU M 380 @ 2.53GHz

RAM: 4.00gb (3.80 usable)

System type: 64-bit Operating System

Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics

Sound card: Intel Display Audio

and it's Windows 7 (again)

Thankyou for your time and effort (if you help or tried to help)

Most people, including myself, have been running Fallout 3 on Windows 7 64bit ever since the OS came out and have had no problems with it. Which version of Fallout did you get the D2D or the Steam version?

Thank you, Fonger. That was going to be my next question if the OP were still around. I guess that I could have worded it a little better.
