How do I update an existing file entry

I'd like to post an update to an existing module I wrote recently, but it appears that I can't do that, I can only create a brand new file entry with its own comments section. How can I update the file for an existing plugin without losing the comments, views and rating of the original? The member interface doesn't seem to support that.

You can edit all the files you have uploaded by going to your Member area. You can edit every aspect of all your files from there.

Certainly, that is what I expected would happen, but it turns out not to be the case: it wouldn't let me upload a new file with the same name as the old one (in order to replace it "You have already uploaded a file with that name for this entry"). The second time I tried, it did allow me to attach a new file to the original entry if I changed its name. I think what I'll have to do is upload the new file, delete the old file, upload the new file again with the original name, then delete the new file with the different name. sigh.

Delete the current file in the "Files" area for your specific entry and then upload the new one, or do what Abramul suggests and just add the new version number to the file you upload.

Where's the problem?

I was under the impression that deleting the only file associated with a plugin would delete the entire entry and all its comments, and I'd have to start from scratch with statistics associated with my plugin.
