Why do we even need to go to war anyway? What can we possibly gain from blowing up orphanages and gunning down innocents in the streets, other than to give them another reason to repeat 9/11?

Right, because obviously our air force is so barbaric that we'd seek these targets out and destroy them....

Last I checked, this description of US military action is nowhere near accurate and is usually spread by left wing anti-war activists who think talking terrorist nations to death actually works. It doesn't. You cannot negotiate with crazy people.

How would you know? Have you ever talked to the people who actually witnessed it? I have friends from the Middle East, and no, I don't mean from over the internet, I mean people I talk to in the flesh, some who are even related to sides of my family. These people moved here looking for opportunity, and they are the nicest people you can surround yourself with, but they look at our government and what it is doing across the Atlantic, and they wonder why the American people doesn't address it. They've seen men who have attacked their friends and families, burned their houses to the ground, and these were people who had nothing to do with terrorist ties. I'm not saying our airforce, army, navy, or whatever are barbarians, it's our government who are the monsters, and some people tell me that they are innocent. But when you talk to the people who have had their lives destroyed, it becomes harder to see who is telling the truth. This kind of mercilessness doesn't need to happen just because of this ambassador thing. No one ever said war was nice, sure, but to start a war for the reasons we have right now is no excuse to ruin the lives of innocents.

And how would you? From what I understand from your statement here, you are talking to Middle Eastern immigrants who haven't witnessed it first hand either, but are hearing second hand reports from their families.

It would not, I suspect, be possible for a serving member of the armed forces to post on here as to the real truth one way or the other, due to operational security reasons. Therefore, we are all speculating to some degree.

Well, it seems that Obama doesn't have enough wars on his plate, now he is sending troops into Africa........ Are we having fun yet?

If you knew why they were going you would not have said what you said .The real question is why this wasn't done 15 or 20 years ago .What Joseph Kony has done for 20+ years is beyond imagining .

Well in the latest news mo0re airstrikes take out Al Queda memebers and I quote ....

"

ADEN, Oct 15, 2011 (AFP) - Suspected U.S. air strikes took out a raft of top Al-Qaeda leaders in Yemen barely two weeks after a drone killed US-born jihadist cleric Anwar al-Awlaqi, provincial and tribal sources said Saturday.

The nine killed in Friday evenings triple raid included a son and cousin of Awlaqi, as well as three other members of his tribe and the media chief of Al-Qaedas feared Yemen arm, the sources told AFP.

The Yemeni defence ministry confirmed that seven Al-Qaeda militants, including its regional media chief, had been killed in a raid.

But it reiterated its standard denial of US involvement in offensive operations on Yemeni soil and insisted its own forces carried it out.

end quote ........

It would seem that the US is waging a war against Iran ... though I see the Iranian people in a bit of a different light - thanks to HeyYou - I still feel that Al Queda and Iran (political leaders) as one and the same thing ... so if the US keeps this up

and their sanctions which is basically "Economic Warfare" and which is having an effect, then there is really no need to "invade" their landspace with troops.

@ Brokenergy ... I was the one who posted the article about the "Saudi plot" thing and though I was pretty "anti" when it came to Iran, I did not suggest that the US or anyone else to "go to war" with Iran over that "specific" incident.

Maybe so, and for that, we are evenly matched. I admit, I have no proof first hand, but they are my family and I trust them. They don't hate us as a people nor do they want to see this place burned to the ground in nuclear fire, and I know they aren't activists, radicals, or what have you. They are just everyday people who wonder when the next bomb will drop through their roof, or when their door will be kicked in, people who want to know what all of the bloodshed is about, and I agree with them. We need more of a reason to go to war than this.

I know full well what is going on in africa. I read the news too. (from more than one source as well.) My question is, how is it the responsibility of the US to play world police? Shall we intervene in every little brushfire war? Every rebellion? Who is going to pay for it? The american tax payers? Shall we bury our nation deeper into debt to fight wars that have been going on for decades? Shall we leave a permanent presence in these countries till every last rebel (that we DON'T support) is wiped out? Got news for ya, that would be a career move. There are always going to be rebels, and self-styled "freedom fighters" attempting to overthrow the current regime. I would also point out, that some of those regimes are just as bad, if not worse, than the folks they are fighting. A solution that is forced on anyone at gunpoint, is not going to be a permanent solution.

The world is a screwed up place. That is a fact. The US military, and the US government, have neither the time, energy, money, will, or know-how to solve all these problems. The government doesn't even seem to be able to solve problems right here at home. We need to get all of our ducks in a row before we start telling others how to get theirs to line up.

Well, the only thing I worry about is if US starts a war against Iran, my country will definately send us there too. I already served in Afghanistan and I think that's enough for me. I joined the army just because I couldn't get a normal job.
