ElioraArin
I am finding navmeshing to be the bane of interior cells - which are otherwise so enjoyable to work on!Of those of you with plenty of experience have you found using & cleaning up auto generated navmeshing, or navmeshing by hand to be the best option? I am interested in which you find easier to implement, but probably more so in which you have found gives the best & least troublesome results. It's amazing how rapidly your enthusiasm & motivation for your mod diminishes once you hit the navmeshing phase, or is this just me ... ?Thanks! Di0nysys
I autonavmesh everything i make. Saves a lot of time especially if you have a lot of levels to work with like i do. For interiors, clear all the navmesh in the cell first, then create a small navmesh triangle. Go to Navmesh > Generation > Recast-based Generation and hit enter. Give it a little time, and it should generate it for u. I find it has issues a bit with entrances, and some irregular collisions on objects, so it requires a slight adjustment. Once you're done cleaning, connect the load door to the other cell and Finalize the cell.

Urtho
I usually use auto-generate as well when navmeshing interiors. It does a reasonable enough job most of the time and having it generated by the CK saves a heck of a lot of time. It can be stupid sometimes when it comes to some stacked statics - items placed vertically on each other such as beds + floors and fireplaces+cooking pots. The system wants to navmesh these places many times when it's just not a good idea as NPCs should never be walking there as they'd run into the higher z-placed static when trying to use a navmesh placed on such a surface. It can also "over navmesh" sometimes, if you have interiors with floor pieces that extend horizontally past where your vertical walls are - meaning a room with walls closer in than a floor piece. Generation tends to navmesh all floor space equally which you have to watch out for if you've moved your walls inward from where the statics might suggest a wall would go. It's a good idea to remove any such excess triangles so NPCs don't try to be more stupid then they already are and attempt to walk through one of your walls just because of the navmesh telling them it's valid. Clean up for these problems is generally quick however, so I'm willing to live with minor issues like these as it's a huge time saver otherwise. ElioraArin
Thank you! I also decided to open some other mods to see what other people have done & realised that I was probably trying to cover more area than I actually need to, which was making it unnecessarily finicky & time consuming. It is still horrible, but at least now its tolerable ;D Edited June 2, 2016 by ElioraArin
Guest deleted5528329
myself i prefer to hand do it. i like having complete control ,and i do not like having to clean up after the auto generator. it does make mistakes sometimes.
