VBlackfang
Hello, as i said before, I am no computer tech but i'd like some hints with my current spec,I'd like to know what i should add/remove (and if you know what company would make the best piece of hardware to insert in my XPS 630i, i'd be happy to hear it!) Current specs: Operating System:Windows 2.6.0.6002 (Service Pack 2)CPU Type:Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHzCPU Speed:2.52 GHzSystem Memory:6 GBVideo Card Model:ATI Radeon HD 5700 SeriesVideo Card Memory:3.74 GBVideo Card Driver:aticfx32.dllDesktop Resolution:1680x1050Hard Disk Size:596.17 GBDownload Speed:1.4 MB/s (11.8 mbps) The best upgrade would be a video card. At the current moment I would buy GeForce 560 Ti or Radeon HD 6950. I like Gigabyte's products, they have great coolers - both silent and powerful. Your CPU is not too powerful as well, but if you upgrade it, you'll have to upgrade the motherboard and, likely, RAM as well - that's both costly and tedious; better wait for some new models to appear. I would wait for the next generation of consoles, and only then upgrade the CPU. Also you could consider buying some SSD drive. I like what is written about OCZ's SSD drives (Vortex 3 mainly). DraLetterz
My laptop is more of a craptop, and it's under-specced for Oblivion, so I know it won't handle Skyrim. It blew chunks whenever I tried Fallout, so I know I definately need a proper desktop.I'm going to build a custom desktop for a friend, this is what I've picked for him:Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131641CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115211Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130571RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231358HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016DVD Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 It costs just under $1,000 in parts (before a monitor) and it'll be way better than any pre-built/store-bought. Just find someone to built it! No no no! Don't pick the LGA1366 platform! It's outdated already, and i7 950 can't compete with a CPU from this year.i5 2500K for LGA1155 performs just as good, and sometimes better. Also it makes the build cheaper, so you can afford a better GPU. (eg. Geforce 560ti or Radeon 6950) ...have a nice day. :)

Thanks It should. I mean, it's a console port. I don't expect it to bog down a mid gaming Laptop. (I hope I used the term "bog" correctly lol)But, if the PC version gets special treatment.. It'll be a different story. (By special treatment I mean getting special stuffs like HD Textures) My rig can run Crysis 2 Max Settings with DX11 and HD Textures with 50 FPS average and it never drops below 30.I'm not worried about not being able to run Skyrim. It's pretty beast. xP Here's my specs if anyone is interested.OS: Windows 7 HP 64-bitCPU: Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.30GHzRAM: 4GB Single Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-24) / 4GB RAMMOB: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8P67 LE (LGA1155) / ASUS P8P67 LEGPU: ASUS EAH6870 Series (ASUStek Computer Inc) / ASUS HD6970 DirectCUHDD: 977GB Western Digital WDC WD10EARS-00MVWB0 ATA Device (SATA) / 1TB HDD The ones on the left is from Piriform's Speccy, and the ones on the right are basically the name on the box.And yeah it's custom built. Pre-builts just doesn't have the appeal and performance that customs has.

If he would use 1280x1024 resolution radeon 5770 for example can run games smoothly. For example I didn't have any problems running gothic 4 radeon 5770 with 1280x1024 resolution. That video card doesn't work good with higher resolution.
Sepherose
Maybe this? For those that don't want to click the link: The latest issue of PCGamer [December], we’ve had a lot of news, but some may or may not be familiar with you. You’ll know what is the best spec for The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim. Here’s a few experience from Chris Comiskey, a staff of PCGamer. While playing Skyrim, he said what the spec he has used to play Skyrim: Core i7-980X processor 6 gigabytes of RAM GeForce GTX 470 at 1650 x 1050 resolution 7,200 RPM hard drive I don't know how reliable that is though. Still waiting on the official stuffs :D

Thanks for the replies but I think i'll have to redo this computer, keeping only the case: XPS 630iand the screen: Dell SP2208WFP (1680 x 1050) Any idea on what other components i'd need, i've already ordererd an INTEL Core i5-2500 3.30GHz processorAnd where can I purchase Windows 7 64 bit for a reasonnable price? thanks in advance

I for example have windows 7 64 bit and have 4 GB ddr3 ram but I am changing back to windows xp since when your windows uses 1 GB ram that means you have only 3 GB ram free so it is the same range of ram free I would have on windows xp 32 bit since windows xp sees around 3,25 GB max but uses also much less ram then windows 7. It uses around 300 MB so there is nearly no diffrence with the free amount ram that you have. And when it comes to games, there is about the same frame rate, and dx11 isn't really that great. So if you plan to use windows 7 64 I really recommend you to buy another 4GB ram to have 8 in total.
