  1. 1. Did you purchase a new computer or parts?

    • I purchased a new computer
    • I purchased new parts
    • I purchased new parts/or all parts and built my computer
    • I did not get any new parts(or at least not for Skyrim) But wish I did
    • I did not get any new parts(or at least not for Skyrim) And will not.
    • I don't care.
    • I purchased new parts/computer and now I regret it after see'ing Skyrim's specs!

I upgraded most of my computer but not the RAM as I use 32-bit windows. My computer can run any future games now and since skyrim supports 32-bis only I´m not that worried about the RAM, still curious about the requirements.

Just for Skyrim, I actually picked up a 6970 from the post office just a couple of hours ago. Planning on running it in trifire with my current 6990 :) For eyefinity-resolution and various heavy future mods I need all the power I can get!

Also bought a Corsair HX 1050W PSU a couple of weeks ago, because my old one conveniently went crippled (Wasn't able to run 6990 anymore, but weaker cards worked fine), and needed to be replaced anyway for another gfx-card :pinch:

I dont think I need to upgrade anything else now. Just concentrating on moving all my files to a NAS atm, so I can get rid of any old HDD storage-devices from my gaming PC. Should give me a lot more space and better air-circulation!

I spent about 600$ upgrading my rig to ensure I that I can run skyim on max settings.

As of now I'm running

Quad core i7 920 OC'd to 4 GHz

12 GB of 1600 MHz RAM

2x 5870 2 GB with Gelid Icy Vision v2 coolers

120 GB SSD

Kinda wish I had a better CPU but, I imagine I still should be good to run skyrim on Ultra settings

A better CPU? That's still highend, you know. It's pretty equal to todays Sandy Bridge, so upgrading it now would be wasting money. The successor to our Bloomfield-CPU's will be the still not released Sandy Bridge-E ;) We'll see how it turns out next month, but I honestly think a better choice would be to wait for Ivy Bridge next year.

Well that's music to my ears. I picked up the CPU about 1 1/2 yrs ago when it was top of the line, so I figured it'd be laggin by now.

BTW, I'm so jealous on your tri-fire config you got going. Would love to have something like that :D

Argh! I voted "bought new compy" instead of "bought the parts and built it myself!" I don't get to be one of the cool kids now.

EDIT: Refresh is a powerful thing. Vote changed!

<--Cool Kid.

I'm just downright amazed at what kind of money people spend on their systems.

It's overkill deluxe.

Why would you say that? Running games in triple-monitor resolutions require a LOT of power in many games. I'm personally running 5292x1050 with my 22" screens, and the 6990 can unfortunately not handle all games I play with good enough performance in that resolution. A third GPU is a much welcomed addition for this purpose, and it's also known to prevent GPU-stuttering that might occur for crossfire/sli-users, which is nice bonus.

I'm sure trifire wont be needed for vanilla Skyrim even with eyefinity activated, but later on it most likely will. If not, I can at least enjoy a steady 60 fps and great performance in other games as well

But trust me, this enhanced experience is well worth it!
