RattleAndGrind
I am a noob here so maybe this isn't my place. But here is a copy of an email I was sent which is not very flattering to the NEXUS, To protect the gentleman, I will refrain from giving his name. "Hey" me. "Welcome to the world of video game modding. Great to see you finally got past solitaire. "For myself, I love making mods. The personalization of a game makes it your game. It is the greatest feeling in the world to make the game do what you think it should do. my_friends_kid "mentioned that you joined NEXUS. Be careful there. I no longer participate on NEXUS. I just got tired of fighting. My work was plagiarized, copied, and outright stolen. The NEXUS is so hypocritical when it comes to thievery that you can never get satisfaction. One user stole my Skyrim mod wholesale. I reported it and showed them dated design documents for the mod. Two years later, nothing. I checked. That user is still there and I assume he is still stealing other peoples work. "What is worse is that the NEXUS Moderators are virtually clueless when it comes to determining what is a valid claim of ownership. To them, possession is all that counts and the thief has it. My guess is that they simply flip a coin when it comes time to make a decision. "And the modders themselves are a collection of misfit toys. Some are really willing to help and answer questions. But the vast majority are of the "I figured it out, you figure it out" school. They are so paranoid that someone will get more Kudos than them or someone will sponsor someone else and not them. I had one modder tell me that his mod was so much superior to mine and that I did not deserve Kudos which he should have gotten for his mod. To complicate the modders pissy paranoia is the demeaning attitude they have about a request for or a change to a mod. It is expected that any such request will be accompanied by obsequious bowing and scraping, fawning, floor kissing and will be presented from the prostrate position after supplicating for permission to speak. It is a given that any request which does not hold out the promise of oral copulation will be summarily discarded. "And if you have a problem with a mod, just delete it. Most modders simply want the download count. If it doesn't work it is because you have the wrong processor or sound card or video card or mother board or cooling system. No problem is ever their problem. Thankfully, the mods are free. "Don't let me scare you. There are some real gems in the dung heap that is NEXUS. When you find them, you will know. Just show some restraint and judgement in whom you trust. And if you eventually upload something to NEXUS, make bloody sure that there are copyright statements in every piece you can put one." The rest is personal stuff. Should I be worried? Edited June 8, 2016 by RattleAndGrind
Oubliette
Well I can tell you with absolute certainty that the staff here take accusations of theft very seriously and do everything in their power to see to it that nothing is on the site is stolen and uploaded without permission. However they're only human, volunteers, which means there's a limit to what they can do as there is a limit to everything. I can assure you that they would never simply take someone's word that an item is stolen or their own creation and require proof when any claims of theft are lobbied. If the person accusing someone else of theft claims to be the rightful owner but can produce no evidence, they're sol and vice versa. Nor can the Nexus control what happens offsite, though they do everything in their power to keep things here safe and respectful to modders. Other than that I'm not entirely sure what your question pertains to though I'd probably do just as the nexus does in these instances, look at claim of wrong doing, any actual evidence for or against and then make my own call. JimboUK
What is there to be worried about? make up your own mind about the site, if it is as terrible as your friend is making out then no one would use it.
DrakeTheDragon
Agreed, there's really no need to comment this email you received, or to be worried really, because your stay here will soon enough show you the truth anyways. (Going by the wording and contents though I have a good idea who the person would be, it just sounds way too familiar... but that's irrelevant to the topic and doesn't matter here.) Let's just say there are people out there who have a personal beef with the Nexus and/or its moderation and are going out of their way to trash talk about it and lie (not saying that's the case here though). Needless to say they don't succeed. Look around, talk to the regulars, or other newcomers, maybe even investigate some, as every act of moderation is mostly documented in public for all to see, and fancy your own opinion. Then you will know.
bben46
Over the last 14 years we have banned a few people. And some of them make it a habit to run the Nexus down at every opportunity. There is a running thread on another site that is nothing but rants against Nexus and how terrible the moderation here is - Obviously we must be doing something wrong to be the longest running and biggest independent mod site on the web. Unlike most other sites we do post every ban for anyone to see the reason. If you are interested here is the link https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/188-forum-rules-and-warnings/ Also, our rules are not the basic vanilla canned rules most sites use, but are entirely created just for the Nexus and written in plain English instead of lawyerese. Look up at the top of the page to find the link to the 'Terms of Service' that we work under.
