Targeted damage/Damage mapping

Well if there IS some kind of locational damage, it sure doesn’t show. In every video I have seen that involves some kind of combat, the enemy has reacted the same to getting hit in the face or in the leg. Kind of disappointed that this basic feature implemented in fallout 3 hasn't been implemented in Skyrim. As for armor protecting certain parts of the body...did it work like that in fallout? I could have sworn a headshot, even when not wearing a helmet of some kind, was effected by outfits.

wasn't it confirmed that there are no limb/bodypart based damages? .. pretty sure .. might have just been a rumor though .. I personally doubt it

there isn't, you would have to mod it in.

ya I was hoping there would be a more entertaining combat system in this game too, without, of course, mods :/

Bethesda didn't add Locational Damage to Oblivion because they didn't want players to feel punished for not wanting to wear armor on all parts of their body. For example some players enjoy using light armor with a hood, yet with Locational Damage that would be a sure way to ask for a headshot fatality.

I agree with their reasoning. It fits well in a game like Fallout 3/New Vegas that emphasizes firearms, but not in The Elder Scrolls.

I disagree. AR is a global value. Not wearing a helmet in either case actually has the same negative side affect- you have a lower damage reduction value. You'd just take more damage with headshots if there would be locational damage, the same damage if you were wearing a helmet or not.

I think it is more likely that melee just doesn't work very well like that, and/or were thinking that they didn't want to penalise players who were less lick-a-shots or something.

I don't think a system like that would work well for Skyrim. I mean if you get hit with a spell how is it gonna work? And Swords? When it comes to slashing damage you die from bleeding so if you get hit in the arm there are arteries that could be cut and you'll die in minutes. It's just as effective as being slashed in the torso. In real life that is. But this is a game; no locational damage if you ask me. But who am I anyway? Bethesda will do whatever they want but I'm pretty sure Pete Hindes said no locational damage. But then again.... its Pete Hindes he's been proven wrong before (with decapitations for example)

Some kind of targeting help and no location damage:

"Skyrim will feature a context-sensitive melee system described as "Magnetism" ... where your melee attacks will automatically target foes instead of slashing everything in your path."

No lock-on targeting while fighting:

No location damage 'confirmation':

further confirmed in 'the Great Sammu's' playthrough

that doesn't mean the concept can't be worked into a mod to make the game better (since combat to begin with isn't an exact copy of real life, its an adaptation for a video game)

I honestly don't know if it would be the best way to go but melee needs some sort of mod to make it more interesting :/
